The General Staff of the Ukrainian Army released a video on July 21 recording a long-range artillery attack on important military targets in Belgorod province, Russia.
According to the announcement, an S-300P air defense complex and a Nebo-M radar station were destroyed during the attack, significantly reducing Russia's long-range air defense capabilities and aerial surveillance capabilities in the region.
The Ukrainian military agency said the attack also affected the 5N66M radar - the supporting component of the S-300 system, and disrupted the capability of the associated air defense complexes. Although it did not specify the weapons used, some pro-Kiev social media accounts said that this was an attack using HIMARS rocket artillery.
Video released by Ukraine shows a large explosion at the radar station, while two missile launchers were deployed at close range. A Russian soldier was seen running back to the destroyed area to check the situation. Another section of the video shows a vehicle giving off smoke, but the image is not clear enough to determine the specific type.
A full S-300P air defense complex is typically worth over $100 million, according to multiple sources.
