The latest storm news on June 19 from Fox 13 said that a potential storm at the beginning of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season is heading towards the coast of the Gulf of Mexico while another system is moving towards Florida, USA.
The US National Hurricane Center is closely monitoring Tropical Storm No. 1 as it moves across the Gulf of Mexico with high development potential, expected to affect a stretch of the Gulf of Mexico coast in the next few days.
The system is expected to bring heavy rains to parts of the coastal areas of Texas and Mexico, leading to a Tropical Storm Warning for parts of southern Texas and a Tropical Storm Warning for northeastern Mexico.
This wont be a storm with strong winds, no storm surge or anything like that, but there will be heavy rain, said Fox 13 meteorologist Dave Osterberg.
Significant rainfall could extend as far north as Houston, according to Osterberg.
The first storm of this year's Atlantic hurricane season will be named storm Alberto with sustained winds of 63 km/h. So far this year, no named storms have formed. This is the last time in 10 years that an Atlantic hurricane season has not had a named storm as of June 19.
In addition, the US National Hurricane Center is also monitoring an Atlantic system that is expected to drift westward toward the northeastern east coast of Florida and Georgia. Currently, this system has a 20% chance of developing into a low pressure area in the next seven days.
Thats something to look out for, maybe by the weekend, as the low pressure is likely to move north of Florida, Osterberg said.
According to the storm forecast on June 19, the potential storm No. 1 is taking in moisture, leading to the possibility of low rain, which will appear from June 21 to the end of the week.
Most Atlantic hurricane forecasts for the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season predict that there will be about 20-25 named storms. This means that the list of 21 named storms for this year's Atlantic hurricane season will be exhausted and could be used for the additional list.
