On October 6, the opening ceremony of the 11th Youth Badminton Tournament for the Capital Youth Newspaper Cup 2024 took place at Cau Giay Gymnasium (Hanoi).
The tournament is an activity to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024); Welcome the 8th Congress of Delegates of the Vietnam Youth Union of Hanoi City, towards the 9th National Congress of Delegates of the Vietnam Youth Union, term 2024 - 2029.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Duc Tien - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Youth Union, Chairman of the Vietnam Youth Union of Hanoi City - said: "The tournament has an important meaning, promoting the sports movement, developing talents, improving health, creating a vibrant competitive atmosphere, a spirit of exchange and learning, increasing solidarity between schools and students, university students, and youth union members in Hanoi.
Over the past years, the mass sports movement has been developing positively, contributing significantly to the development of the sports industry in particular and the development of the capital in general in the economic and social fields.
Journalist Nguyen Manh Hung - Editor-in-Chief of Tuoi Tre Thu Do Newspaper, Head of the tournament organization said: "The 2024 Youth Badminton Tournament for the Tuoi Tre Thu Do Newspaper Cup is held on the occasion of the 70th anniversary - the journey of innovation and development of the beloved capital Hanoi. Therefore, the tournament is a meaningful gift that Tuoi Tre Thu Do Newspaper wants to give to Hanoi city.

The Youth Badminton Tournament for the Tuoi Tre Thu Do Newspaper Cup 2024 has more than 1,200 athletes registered to compete, including:
Subject A: Students studying at universities, colleges, professional secondary schools, vocational schools and high schools with level I, national masters, medalists in tournaments within the tournament system of the International Badminton Federation and the Vietnam Badminton Federation...
Athletes compete in 5 events: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.
Subject B: Full-time, long-term students studying in universities, colleges, vocational schools, and high schools.
Athletes compete in 3 categories: men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles (Group 1 - 18 years old and under; Group 2: 19 - 26 years old).
Staff, teachers and lecturers aged 70+: Staff, lecturers and teachers working in universities, colleges, vocational colleges, high schools and have had a salary for 6 months or more.
Compete in 2 events: Men's doubles and mixed doubles (no athletes under 27 years old).
The Organizing Committee will award gold, silver, bronze medals, cash, gifts, and certificates of achievement to athletes who win first, second, and third prizes in each competition; and flags and cash to the first, second, and third prize winners of the entire delegation; the total prize value is over 400 million VND.
