End of a journey
“I have worked with Vietnamese shooting for more than 10 years. Through each tournament, the Vietnamese shooting team and I have had successes and failures. But for me, each result is memorable and it is the effort of each athlete,” said expert Park Chung-gun at a meeting and gratitude organized by the sports industry on October 8 in Hanoi.
In terms of professional results, Mr. Park Chung-gun is the foreign coach (Korean nationality) who has achieved the most impressive results when participating in coaching a high-performance sports team of Vietnamese sports.
Vietnam's shooting team won one Gold Medal, one Silver Medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics (Brazil) and one Gold Medal, one Silver Medal, one Bronze Medal at the 19th ASIAD. Of which, the Gold Medal at the 2016 Olympics and at the 19th ASIAD in the pistol event is the most impressive result that expert Park Chung-gun and the coaching staff of the Vietnam shooting team have achieved.
Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Training Dang Ha Viet appreciated the contributions of expert Park Chung-gun and believed that the results he achieved with Vietnamese shooting would always be highly appreciated.
After more than 10 years working in Vietnam, expert Park Chung-gun has ended his journey (labor contract ends on August 31).
High goals ahead
President of the Vietnam Shooting Federation - Mr. Do Van Binh affirmed at the meeting, expressing gratitude to expert Park Chung-gun that Vietnam shooting highly appreciates the results that the expert brought to the Vietnam shooting team, but in the immediate future we still have to invest to continue developing. Vietnam shooting aims for the highest goal of achieving medals at the 20th ASIAD and the 2028 Olympics, and above all, must focus on key shooters.
The Vietnamese shooting team is training at the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi with a coaching staff of domestic coaches. The Department of Physical Education and Sports affirms that we will definitely continue to hire foreign experts to further improve Vietnamese shooting.
Currently, the Vietnam shooting team still has important faces in pistols such as Trinh Thu Vinh and Pham Quang Huy. However, the Vietnam shooting team does not only expect results in pistols but also other important contents in each specific professional group. Therefore, the manager aims to find specialized experts for each content group.
Through research, Vietnamese shooting still wants to find Korean experts to come to Vietnam to do professional work. Because the mark of Korean shooting with Vietnamese shooting has many relationships to do well in training and coaching programs.
It is not impossible that Vietnamese sports will still aim to hire Korean shooting experts to come to Vietnam to work as specialists.
