On December 26, a press conference was held in Hanoi to vote for outstanding national athletes and coaches in 2024.
These are noble titles awarded by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Department of Physical Training and Sports, the Vietnam Olympic Committee and the Vietnam Paralympic Committee to athletes with outstanding achievements and coaches whose athletes have achieved high achievements, voted by sports journalists nationwide every year.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Dang Ha Viet - Director of the Department of Physical Training and Sports said: "In 2024, Vietnamese sports achieved certain achievements in regional and continental tournaments as well as improved achievements at the Olympics. In particular, the Department has advised on building a sports development plan until 2030 - vision to 2045.
Journalists and reporters today have been with Vietnamese sports for many years, understanding the difficulties, efforts and professional analysis of each subject, each athlete ... Therefore, we hope the votes of journalists and reporters for those who deserve it. "
Mr. Viet added: "2025 is a busy year for the sports industry, especially the implementation of the project to develop 17 key sports for the period 2026 - 2046 (5 Olympics, 6 ASIADs, 11 SEA Games), setting goals, tasks, and solutions for target groups in the period".
This year, there are 42 outstanding athletes on the nomination list, typically Trinh Thu Vinh (shooting), Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen (volleyball), Nguyen Thuy Linh (badminton), Tran Quyet Chien (billiards), Nguyen Van Khanh Phong (gymnastics), Chau Tuyet Van (wushu), Huynh Ha Huu Hieu (muay)...
The nominated coaches include Mr. Duong Hoang Long (karate), Nguyen Nhu Cuong (boxing), Bui Yen Ly (muay), Nguyen Tuan Kiet (volleyball), Nguyen Dinh Hoang (women's futsal), Bui Mai Phuong (wushu)...
Disabled athletes on the nomination list include Le Van Cong, Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan, Dang Thi Linh Phuong (weightlifting); Do Thanh Hai, Le Tien Dat (swimming); Doan Thu Huyen (chess).
The three nominated disabled sports coaches are Nguyen Dang Vien (swimming), Bui Quang Vu (chess) and Le Quang Thai (weightlifting).
The list of outstanding athletes and coaches will be ranked from highest to lowest total points. If two or more athletes and coaches have the same total points, the one with the higher score will be ranked higher.
Individuals and groups achieving the titles will be awarded Certificates of Merit from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Certificates of Merit from the President of the Vietnam Olympic Committee or Certificates of Merit from the President of the Vietnam Paralympic Committee and other forms of rewards.
Voted titles and number honored:
1. Title of "National Outstanding Athlete" - 10 athletes.
2. Title of "National Outstanding Sports Team" - 3 teams/teams.
3. Title "National Outstanding Coach" - 5 coaches.
4. Title "National Outstanding Disabled Sports Athlete" - 5 athletes.
5. Title of "National Outstanding Sports Coach for the Disabled" - 3 coaches.
