Open opportunities
The Women's Volleyball Champions League is always considered a clear opportunity to help Vietnamese players get attention. Many teams from countries and territories in Asia participated in this tournament, so if Vietnamese players are interested, they will have the prospect of being noticed by scouts.
Since this tournament was held, Vietnamese women's volleyball has always had a representative to participate (excuding the national champion team).
Currently, VTV Binh Dien Long An team is the representative of Vietnamese women's volleyball competing in the Philippines, so some faces such as: Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, Vo Thi Kim Thoa, Vi Thi Nhu Quynh will be of interest to the teams.
Now, the sports market is more open than before. At the same time, the player's approach to teams in many tournaments is no longer limited by the development of social networks and diverse media. For example, Vietnamese players have actively registered for a try out before the Korean volleyball season. That shows that the opportunity is expanded for all players if they want to compete abroad once, said General Secretary of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation Le Tri Truong.
As Mr. Le Tri Truong analyzed, the opportunity is very open for all Vietnamese women's volleyball players if they have expertise and are determined to develop their careers abroad.
Blocker Tran Thi Bich Thuy (Duc Giang Lao Cai Chemicals team) is the most recent Vietnamese women's volleyball player to have competed abroad. Her good performance at the GS Caltex Seoul team (Korea) received positive encouragement from the Korean media and Vietnamese fans.
When Bich Thuy returned home to compete in the first phase of the 2025 National Volleyball Championship, head coach Lee Young Taik of the GS Caltex Seoul team had to go to Vietnam to attend and watch the quality of Vietnamese female players to find more human resources for herself. Unfortunately, Mr. Lee Young Taik has not chosen the right person.
But it is still difficult for Vietnamese female players to go abroad
We need to recognize the fact that volleyball is a collective sport and the selection of foreign scouts for Vietnamese players is very strict, with professional factors given top priority.
Tran Thi Bich Thuy and Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen, two national players with outstanding expertise compared to many other players, participated in the try out on April 11, but unfortunately could not win the opportunity to compete in Korea.
Former Vice President of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation Nguyen Ba Nghi spoke to the press, expressing one of the reasons why Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen has not been chosen by the Korean team for hire because she still has limited expertise in defense.
Currently, Vietnam's number 1 striker, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, is competing in the Women's Volleyball Champions League 2025. She still intends to find opportunities to compete abroad. However, in the last 2 trips abroad, this hitter was terminated early by Kuzeyboru (Türkiye) and Gresik Petrokimia (Indonesia).
Thanh Thuy has never shared with the media the reason why she returned home early. The Vietnamese professional volleyball community clearly understands that Thanh Thuy has not yet reached her best expertise and form, so the two teams above accept to part ways with her.
Now, some women's teams in Vietnam are expanding opportunities to exchange players when signing contracts with their partners abroad. We have seen that there are teams in Japan or teams in Thailand that are professional partners of some of our women's volleyball teams. This parallelism is very good and suitable for the development of modern volleyball. However, with Vietnamese volleyball, many components determine specifically the opportunity to play abroad or train players" - Mr. Le Tri Truong also expressed.
