Vietnamese volleyball players and transfer stories

HOÀI VIỆT |

Vietnam Volleyball has male and female players who have gone abroad to compete. The Vietnam Volleyball Federation issued the Player Transfer Regulations since 2010. If there are suitable needs, qualified players can be transferred according to the agreements signed between each team.

Professionalism requires transfer

Currently, we clearly see Vietnamese volleyball players (both male and female) looking for opportunities to compete abroad or find suitable teams to devote their expertise and earn income according to their needs. This is not wrong when volleyball becomes professional.

We see a specific example that Thai volleyball is very open in transferring players. The key point that Thai people create conditions for players to compete abroad is to have more opportunities to learn and accumulate expertise. Vietnamese players are the same. Managers always emphasize the issue of a player's loyalty to his club.

But clearly, if given the opportunity and in a developed professional sport, no one can hold them back. There are many cases of players (in Vietnam alone) changing their clubs over the years.

This reflects that volleyball players are attractive people for football teams to look for to hire.

Vietnamese volleyball is similar to many other sports in that most teams belong to the parent unit, and still exist from the funding provided by the State according to regulations. When the teams are financially independent, and are decided by the autonomous units, athletes or coaches have the right to make their own choices in finding teams that ensure professional factors, including salaries and bonuses.

Each person has their own will.

The most specific case is coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet. Mr. Kiet has been through many football teams (when working as a coach). But certainly, this coach emphasizes the issue of professionalism in sports. Where there is supply, there is demand.

At the same time, the teams must evaluate the value of the human resources they recruit, so coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet has the right to choose the right place. Currently, Mr. Kiet is the head coach of the women's team of the Bank for Industry and Trade (Vietinbank).

Player Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy is one of the players who has played abroad the most time. But clearly, if the management unit, VTV Binh Dien Long An women's team, had not created favorable conditions, Thanh Thuy would have had little chance to go to Taiwan (China), Japan and Türkiye to develop her skills.

Vietnamese volleyball has players invited to compete abroad, but they are holding key positions in many teams. Each team has to solve the problem of performance when competing domestically, so very few teams agree to let their key players go abroad. The only player highly appreciated by the volleyball world for her professionalism is Dinh Thi Tra Giang. This middle blocker has played for many domestic teams. She was invited by the 3BB Nakornnont team (Thailand) to compete in early 2023 and Tra Giang participated.

Through many times wearing the jersey of the football team, this veteran middle blocker once expressed that what he appreciated the most was the accumulation of expertise through the training of each coach because no one taught him that. Through each team's formation, players like Tra Giang have very good experiences for themselves.

Vietnam volleyball has 18 teams participating in the national championship, each team has a front line of 14 players. The number shows that the number of athletes is not small. Professionalism is being built by each team to ensure discipline and consistency in competition. On the field, each situation is an adjustment of the coaching staff.

A representative of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation once analyzed that: "When each player maintains discipline and professionalism, that is, is aware that there must be the best in expertise, complying with many factors including image, competition results... then Vietnamese volleyball will have the best combination to create general professionalism".
