As planned, at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand at the end of the year, Vietnam table tennis team will attend all 7 contents: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, men and women, men's teammates and women's teammates. The mission of Vietnam table tennis is to ensure the results compared to the Congress 2 years ago, that is, winning a gold medal.
Previously, in the 2017, 2019 and 2022 SEA Games (in Vietnam), in 2023 (in Cambodia), Vietnam won 1 Gold Medal.
Mr. Phan Tuan Anh - in charge of the table tennis Department of Sports, said: “According to professional assessment, the 33 SEA Games will be very difficult to win the gold medal. When doing duty in international tournaments, we find that young athletes of all countries are invested very strongly. Indonesian or Thailand table tennis tournament and some other prizes are very focused on young training, focusing on Vietnamese tables and fighting teams from 33 tables and tables 33 to 2 gold medals. We participate in the content of the Organizing Committee ”.
Accordingly, one of the important tournaments for the Vietnam Table Tennis Team to select athletes is the 2025 National Table Tennis Championship. This year's tournament has the participation of more than 200 athletes from 21 provincial, municipal and industry delegations, including top faces such as Dieu Khanh, My Trang, Anh Hoang, Dinh Duc, Anh Tu, Duc Tuan, Mai Ngoc... along with some promising young faces participating in the competition.
The national championship organized 7 contents - similar to the content of the Vietnam table tennis team to attend the 33rd SEA Games - will be the basis for experts to carefully evaluate the capacity and achievements of each athlete. "In the list of registration for the national tournament, most of the top racquets in Vietnam attend. Through this tournament, with a clear set of criteria, we will coordinate with the professional committee to select athletes for the national team to prepare for international tournaments, which focus on SEA Games 33 in December," Mr. Phan Anh Tuan said.
The Vietnamese table tennis team will be established after closing the national championship. The team force is expected to include 3 coaches and 10 athletes. The Vietnam table tennis federation and the table tennis will advise the Sports Department to take the team to train in China for 1-2 months to have a comprehensive preparation for the Congress.
According to Mr. Tuan, before the national championship, in fact, some teams such as Hanoi, Hai Duong, CAND-T&T had created conditions for athletes to practice in China. Since then, their form has been maintained and helped improve the quality of the tournament. Thus, the selection of athletes for the national team will also become more favorable.
Talking to Lao Dong, coach Vu Manh Cuong of the CAND-T&T club said: "In general, the national championship is considered the most important tournament of the year. The teams have all prepared carefully in terms of strength and expertise, because through this, athletes of the national team towards the SEA Games will be selected. I see many young athletes participating this year, although they may not be outstanding, they are still potential to be discovered and further developed.
Up to now, table tennis is a sport that has not been concentrated in the national team in 2025. After the national championship ends on May 26, the team will be established and enter the domestic and international training process.
