During his working trip to the US on September 24 (local time), President of the World Football Federation (FIFA) Gianni Infantino met with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. Here, the head of FIFA gave many compliments for the remarkable progress of Indonesian football in recent times.
Mr. Infantino highly appreciated the leadership role of President Prabowo and the support of President of the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) and Minister of Sports Erick Thohir.
According to him, these efforts have created a great driving force for the comprehensive development of football in the "ten thousand islands". On his personal page, the FIFA President wrote: Indonesian football has made an important step forward. I wish the national team will win a ticket to the 2026 World Cup".
Previously, Indonesia was awarded the FIFA Forward Gold award, a testament to the achievements that the country's football has achieved. Mr. Infantino also affirmed that FIFA will continue to cooperate closely with the Indonesian government, especially in exploiting programs to support the development of school football.
On the Indonesian side, President Prabowo expressed his appreciation for FIFA's support. He emphasized that football not only has a sporting meaning but also contributes significantly to strengthening the spirit of national unity and opening up many opportunities for the younger generation.
This meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. Currently, the Indonesian team is preparing to enter the fourth qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia, where they will face Saudi Arabia and Iraq - opponents who are highly appreciated for their experience and strength.
