No doctor has difficulty sleeping well
Recalling his time in Hangzhou (China), Dr. Nguyen Van Trien said that he was assigned to closely follow the Vietnamese karate team to compete at the 19th ASIAD. Before competing, Dr. Trien always carefully advises each experienced player to maintain the best health condition and he always stands guard in a comfortable area to be ready to rescue the fighter in case of health problems during the competition.
Coach Duong Hoang Long of the Vietnamese karate team at the 19th ASIAD shared that the help of Dr. Trien has important professional value and athletes are most assured. At the end of the 19th ASIAD, the Vietnamese karate team won 1 Gold Medal, 1 Silver Medal and 2 Bronze Medals.
The Vietnamese women's cloud football team left its mark with the Gold Medal in the women's 4-a-side team event at the 19th ASIAD. Few people know that during the competition, the main attacking player Tran Thi Ngoc Yen suffered an injury but did not give up but determined to strive to compete until the final match. However, she was able to ensure her safe health thanks to the close supervision of Dr. Nguyen Manh Thang of the Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences (member of the medical team of the Vietnam Sports delegation at the 19.
Mr. Thang took on the responsibility of ensuring the health and safety of the Vietnamese cloud football team. Understanding the health of each athlete and the situation of Ngoc Yen, Dr. Thang has maintained the most strict regimen for the coaching staff to carry out enough exercise intensity with athletes. Experience and professional responsibility do not allow affected players, Dr. Thang is always on duty with the coaching staff at that time. When the Vietnamese women's cloud badminton team won the Gold Medal, Dr. Thang felt satisfied because his work contributed to the overall success of the country's sports.
The highest responsibility
The responsibility of doing medical work at Vietnamese sports delegations in the Olympic arena seems easy but decisive. Many people say that it is easy because the equipment for medical work at the Olympics is often complete and modern, so doctors in the Vietnam Sports Delegation have a significantly reduced professional load. That is only partly true. Each doctor, when a member of the Vietnam Sports Delegation at the Olympics, is on duty professionally 24/7, supporting athletes to the maximum.
At the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics (Brazil), the Vietnam Sports Delegation sent 3 doctors to the delegation, including Mr. Nguyen Trong Hien, Nguyen Van Phu, and Duong Tien Can. Doctor Nguyen Trong Hien (responsible as the head of the medical team) recalled: It was a memorable Olympics because Vietnamese sports competed far away. At the athlete village, we clearly assign the task to each person and above all, ensure the responsibility of keeping the health and safety of athletes because the Olympics are very stressful. When we won the Gold Medal in the shooting range, we were also moved to be there like athletes because at that time, it was all a common pride in Vietnam's sports achievements".
Last year, the Vietnam Sports Delegation sent two doctors, Nguyen Trong Hien and Tran Anh Tuan, to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Doctor Nguyen Trong Hien said that the small number of medical staff means a larger workload, requiring high responsibility and a strong professional spirit.
