On the morning of October 5, Cong Phuong shared with the media when he attended the departure ceremony for the 2024-2025 season of Binh Phuoc club. Here, the striker born in 1995 explained the reason why he decided to choose Binh Phuoc as the next "destination" in his career.
"I talked to the club president, he shared his dream and ambition, and that is also my dream. When I decided to go abroad to develop Vietnamese football, there were many issues to deal with. One of those issues was how Vietnamese players could play abroad, thereby improving the level of domestic players. I have shared this issue for a long time.
As everyone can see, Korea and Japan, their players also go abroad to play in developed countries in Europe. This is in President Son's vision, just like my vision, so I decided to play for Binh Phuoc," Cong Phuong shared.
"The V.League clubs already have facilities. I talked to the team's president and I see my dream is to develop Vietnamese football. I will try my best to contribute with Binh Phuoc, helping to develop the club further. I will try my best to bring Binh Phuoc to V.League, that is my goal and the team's goal," Cong Phuong added.
Cong Phuong did not play much during his time at Yokohama. However, he is still very confident and believes that he can quickly adapt to Binh Phuoc.
Regarding the differences in his time in Japan compared to his time with Binh Phuoc, Cong Phuong said: "Not only in Binh Phuoc but also in clubs in Vietnam, all follow a common standard. In Japan, they are more relaxed, always letting players be self-aware of themselves and their careers. Because that is the source of income for themselves, their families, as well as contributing to society. That is the responsibility of a player.
In Vietnam, this is not high. Hopefully, not only now but also in the future, I will try to change to help players realize that they have to strive to develop, not only for themselves but also for their families and society."
Cong Phuong said his biggest goal now is not to return to the national team. He said: "In the short term, I will try my best for the club. If I do well and the team needs me, I am always ready. Returning to the team is not my biggest goal, but if the team needs me, I will give my all."
