Vietnam men's volleyball team and lessons learned from the Asian tournament

HƯNG HÀ |

The Vietnam men's volleyball team has learned lessons from the 2025 Asian Club Championship (AVC Champions League 2025).

We must improve

The Vietnam men's volleyball team has lost 2 matches against Al Rayyan (Qatar), Al Muharraq (Bahrain) and stopped at the 2025 Asian Club Championship.

In the 2 matches played, head coach Tran Dinh Tien brought on the field the best players of Vietnamese men's volleyball at the present time. However, our hitters are inferior to strong opponents. The loss was not surprising.

The reality on the field shows that the players of the Vietnam men's volleyball team continue to make mistakes in blocking the ball on the net and defense in step 1.

We do not lack players who can finish well such as main attackers Nguyen Ngoc Thuan, Duong Van Tien and opposite players Pham Quoc Du, Nguyen Van Quoc Duy. However, when the first defense is unsuccessful, the player will not have the attacking ball to score.

When the Vietnam men's volleyball team began to focus, coach Tran Dinh Tien and the coaching staff had to actively solve this problem for the players.

General Secretary of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation - Mr. Le Tri Truong discussed before the Vietnamese volleyball team attended the Asian tournament: "The requirement above all is accumulated in the tournament. When playing against the opponents, we will see which weaknesses to be overcome. The tournament is a good opportunity for the team to check the actual test team after the professional training process".

The coaching staff also determined that each tournament has professional goals to aim for. When they fail, the Vietnam men's volleyball team will learn more lessons to improve.

There is still time to prepare for the 33rd SEA Games

The Vietnam men's volleyball team is expected to return home today (May 14). When developing a professional training program in 2025, coach Tran Dinh Tien was assigned to win a medal at the 33rd SEA Games.

The Vietnam men's volleyball team will participate in 3 international tournaments before participating in the 33rd SEA Games, including the 2025 Asian Club Championship (May), AVC Men's Volleyball Nations Cup (June), SEA V.League 2025 (July).

The players have finished the competition program at the 2025 Asian Club Championship. Therefore, the Vietnam men's volleyball team has 2 tournaments to make professional adjustments.

In 2024, coach Tran Dinh Tien and the Vietnam Men's Volleyball Team faced great pressure because they did not achieve high results in the two tournaments AVC Challenge Cup (the predecessor of AVC Men's Volleyball Nations Cup) and SEA V.League. No one wants that to happen again.

At this time, Vietnamese men's volleyball is lacking a leader with outstanding expertise to score in the decisive situation.

Previously, during the period when the Vietnamese men's volleyball team flourished and held a high position in Southeast Asia, we had outstanding hitters such as Ngo Van Kieu and Tu Thanh Thuan.

In the current squad, the players of the Vietnam men's volleyball team have equal expertise, not many of them have the ability to play at the club.

The 33rd SEA Games will take place in December. The Vietnam men's volleyball team has 6 months to continue training and preparation. From the 2025 Asian Club Championship, many professional issues will certainly be raised.

The Vietnam men's volleyball team will consider the matches in the 2025 SEA V.League as the most accurate test to know the level gap between us against the men's teams of Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
