This year, the 2026 World Sepak Takraw Cup is held in Malaysia from May 16 to May 23. The World Sepak Takraw Federation only organizes events specifically for the tournament.
The Vietnamese men's sepak takraw team took the field on the opening day of May 16 and played the first match of the group stage in the 4-a-side team event.
In the opening match, Vietnamese players narrowly won 2-1 against the Thai men's team. The victory is considered a smooth start for the whole team.
At the tournament, we will participate in the 4-person team events, regu team and team events.
According to the draw in the 4-a-side team event, the Vietnamese men's sepak takraw team is in Group D with Japan, Indonesia and Thailand. Last year at SEA Games 33, the Vietnamese men's sepak takraw team won a gold medal in the men's 4-a-side team event. This year, we are expected to participate in this event at ASIAD 20 and the Japanese team is the host of the Games.
In addition to the teams of Group D, the 4-person team event also has other participating teams including China, Brunei, Myanmar, India, Singapore, Korea, Philippines, Taiwan (China) and Malaysia.
In the team event, the Vietnamese men's sepak takraw team entered Group A with Thailand and the Philippines, and in the regu team event, we are in Group C with Myanmar, Indonesia, and China.
At the 2025 World Cup, the Vietnamese sepak takraw team won a silver medal in the 4-a-side team event.
