According to the latest announcement from the Asian Taekwondo Association, the Vietnamese taekwondo team was awarded 8 official slots to compete in ASIAD 20 in Japan.
Among the 8 slots awarded, the Vietnamese taekwondo team has 2 slots to participate in performance rights and 6 slots to participate in combat weight classes including 58kg men, 68kg men, over 80kg men; 49kg women, 67kg women, over 67kg women.
These are the spots awarded to the Vietnam Taekwondo Team.
The coaching staff and professional departments of the performance and sparring events will have the selection of appropriate forces to participate in ASIAD 20.
For the performance right event, the coaching staff of the taekwondo team will organize an internal selection competition on June 12 in Tay Ninh to find 1 male player and 1 female player with the highest performance to compete in Japan.
The taekwondo event of ASIAD 20 will be held from October 1st to October 3rd. Recently, the Vietnamese taekwondo team competed in the 2026 Asian Championship in Mongolia and this is the ASIAD 20 qualifying round.
At the ASIAD 19 competition held in 2023 in Hangzhou (China), the Vietnamese taekwondo team won 3 bronze medals.
One of the medal results is a bronze medal in the women's 67kg weight class of martial artist Bac Thi Khiem.
The coaching staff of the Vietnamese taekwondo team has announced that the selection of martial artists to participate in ASIAD 20 will be fair and public, and the highest-level martial artists will represent Vietnamese Sports to compete in Japan.
