On October 8, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Department of Physical Training and Sports and the Vietnam Shooting Federation held a ceremony to honor Mr. Park Chung-gun - Former expert and head coach of the Vietnam shooting team.
Sports leaders recognized the contributions, efforts and intelligence of coach Park Chung-gun to Vietnamese shooting in particular and Vietnamese sports in general over the past 10 years.
At the ceremony, Park Chung-gun was honored to receive the Third Class Labor Medal from the President. This award recognizes the Korean expert's persistent contributions.
The Korean expert shared: "I would like to thank those who attended and helped me have the honor to participate in the gratitude ceremony. For more than 10 years working here, I have always considered Vietnam as my second homeland. I have experienced successes as well as failures. Those are all beautiful memories.
I always believe that Vietnamese shooting will be more successful, instead of stopping at the achievements in the past. I also hope that Vietnamese shooting will invite more talented and excellent experts than me so that the shooters can win gold medals at ASIAD and Olympics. I always wish success for my students and colleagues."
Coach Park Chung-gun made great contributions to helping Vietnamese shooting achieve many impressive achievements.
In 2016, with the support of Mr. Park Chung-gun and Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhung (head coach at that time), shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh made a miracle for Vietnamese sports in general and shooting in particular when he won the Olympic gold medal in the men's 10m air pistol event and the silver medal in the men's 50m air pistol event.
At the 18th ASIAD, Vietnamese shooting won 2 bronze medals in the 10m air pistol mixed pair event of Tran Quoc Cuong - Le Thi Linh Chi and the 10m mobile rifle men's event of Ngo Huu Vuong.

Most recently, at the 2024 Olympics, shooter Trinh Thu Vinh, participating in the Olympics for the first time, won 4th place overall in the women's 10m air pistol event and reached the finals of the women's 25m sport pistol event.
After the contract ended at the end of August 2024, the Sports Administration and Park Chung-gun exchanged emails about the contract extension. However, Park decided not to sign a new contract due to personal reasons.
