Coach Kim Sang-sik needs to be bold

Lê Vinh |

While coach Philippe Troussier failed because he was a bit "heavy-handed" with his strategy, Mr. Kim Sang-sik needs to show "boldness".

The elements of “boldness” and “boldness” are understood to revolve around the story of opportunities for young players in the national team. Mr. Troussier was appointed with long-term ambitions but the immediate goal, with the task given to compete for a ticket to the 2026 World Cup. The French strategist immediately started to reform in the strongest way possible, when trusting the young players.

Troussier understood that the young players were still inexperienced, but he also “saw” the lack of motivation and the decline of a series of key stars. The irony was that the decline appeared at an age when they should have reached the peak of their careers. It was quite a pity for the “White Wizard” when his magic did not work - and until now people have realized that the main fault was not his - leading to a breakdown after only 1 year.

Mr. Kim Sang-sik was appointed with the important criterion of being “more suitable for Vietnamese football”, but very soon, people had to admit once again that Mr. Troussier was right about the team’s pillars. They no longer had the necessary momentum to help the team rise.

And that momentum is now in the hands of the young players. So, the Korean coach needs to boldly trust them, use them, even in the starting lineup. Remember which names have left a positive mark in the past matches? That is Van Truong who is active and enthusiastic, Vi Hao who is quite courageous with his dribbling, and Thai Son who scored as soon as he was called back.

Even though it was a goal in an unofficial friendly match (Vi Hao also scored), somewhere people saw that the “legacy” that Mr. Troussier left behind was not without value. In other words, Troussier created the starting point, Kim Sang-sik now just needs to train, assemble and develop…
