The Vietnamese sports delegation has made a list of participants in the 33rd SEA Games with 1,165 members. In terms of the force participating in the Southeast Asian Games (held outside of Vietnam) in the last 3 tournaments (except for the 31st SEA Games in 2022), the Vietnamese sports delegation to Thailand this time has the largest number of players.
Professional preparation for Vietnamese sports towards the 33rd SEA Games has been carefully organized since the beginning of 2025. After each stage, each national team reviews the number of coaches and athletes participating in the events organized at the congress to have specific registration. It can be seen that 1,165 members attending the 33rd SEA Games have been carefully selected by management levels. We will attend the Congress with determination and effort to achieve the highest results" - Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh - Head of the Vietnam Sports delegation discussed.
At the 33rd SEA Games, the Vietnamese sports delegation participated in 47 events, the sub-events included in the official competition program issued by host Thailand. Basically, each team participating in the 33rd SEA Games is calculated to send key forces, the right people, the right person to determine the medal without spreading it.
This is the first time that the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports has issued a decision to establish a Vietnamese Sports Delegation to participate in the 33rd SEA Games instead of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as before. In which, we are present with the main force of 952 members using State budget and the force of 213 members using socialized budget.
Meritorious Artist for ASIAD 20
Mr. Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet - Director of the Vietnam Department of Physical Training and Sports, shared with the press that Vietnam's sports will aim to win the highest medals in the Olympic and ASIAD groups held at the 33rd SEA Games. This is also the specific goal that the Vietnam Sports Delegation reported at the Departure Ceremony to attend SEA Gamers 33.
Two years ago, the Vietnam Sports Delegation won Gold Medals in Olympic and ASIAD events held at the 32nd SEA Games in 2023 in Cambodia, including basketball, athletics, triathlon, gymnastics, jujitsu, karate, pencak silat, swimming, boxing, boxing, fencing, women's football, golf, judo, cloud bridge, table tennis, taekwondo, weightlifting, weightlifting, bodybuilding, wushu.
With the 33rd SEA Games, the Vietnam Sports Delegation maintains its goal of not missing the opportunity to win Gold Medals in key sports of the Olympic and ASIAD groups. Because right after the 33rd SEA Games, the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports immediately started to develop a plan to attend the 20th ASIAD in 2026. Therefore, the athlete who won the Gold Medal in the Olympic and ASIAD group events in Thailand this time is the main face aiming to perform at the 20th ASIAD.
Goals and position
The 33rd SEA Games will start taking place from December 3 with some of the first events. However, the official competition program will be held from December 9 to December 20 in Bangkok and Chonburi (Thailand).
The Vietnamese sports team aims to strive for 90 to 110 Gold Medals.The preparation and performance forecast is based on many factors, in which we grasp the professional forces of each Vietnam national team that will compete in the 33rd SEA Games, Head of Delegation Nguyen Hong Minh spoke at the Departure Ceremony.
According to the forecast, we have the opportunity to achieve the numbers exceeding 100 Gold Medals at the 33rd SEA Games if the coaches and athletes maintain the highest spirit and performance.
Vietnamese sports have achieved 98 Gold Medals, 205 Gold Medals and 136 Gold Medals at the 30, 31 and 32 SEA Games. The indicators show professional stability and actual competition results close to the targets set before the competition. Therefore, the manager believes that the 1,165 members at the 33rd SEA Games will complete the assigned tasks.
The Vietnamese sports delegation attended the 33rd SEA Games under the responsibility of a member of the Southeast Asian region. However, we are ready to overcome professional challenges to win the most prestigious medals, bringing glory to the Fatherland.

Also in professional preparation, the health factor for coaches and athletes is given top priority. Head of the medical team of the Vietnam Sports Delegation at the 33rd SEA Games - Doctor Tran Anh Tuan said: Each national team has its own characteristics in professional preparation. We have specifically assigned each officer of the medical team to support the work of ensuring the best and safest health for members during the 33rd SEA Games. The medical team has 19 members in the Vietnam Sports Delegation and takes on professional tasks with due responsibility.
