Khuat Van Khang becomes captain of the U22 Vietnam team at the 33rd SEA Games

Midfielder Khuat Van Khang will be the captain of the U22 Vietnam team at the 33rd SEA Games.

After Van Truong suffered a ligament injury and could not participate in the 33rd SEA Games, coach Kim Sang-sik has completed the list of officials of the U22 Vietnam team for the upcoming tournament.

At the 2025 CFA China Team Tournament, Van Truong held the captain's armband and played all three matches. However, injuries forced him to withdraw.

In the team meeting on November 29, coach Kim Sang-sik decided to hand over the captain's armband to midfielder Khuat Van Khang (The Cong Viettel club).

This is a familiar position for Van Khang as he was the captain at the 2025 U22 Southeast Asian level and many previous youth teams.

The vice-captain position was assigned to midfielder Nguyen Dinh Bac. The young players have made great progress in this training session and have received the trust of the coaching staff.

This is a notable change as in previous tournaments, the vice-captain role often belonged to center back Hieu Minh.

On the afternoon of November 29, U22 Vietnam continued to practice at Ba Ria Stadium. Coach Kim Sang-sik divided the squad and organized a competition to evaluate the performance before reducing the list, loaicing 5 players and completing personnel for the 33rd SEA Games.

The team will travel to Thailand on December 1, officially starting the journey to compete for the gold medal in men's football.

Before that, coach Kim Sang-sik will finalize the list of 23 players in the official shortlist to go to Thailand to participate in the 33rd SEA Games.
