Le Quang Liem will participate in the KPNest 2024 Gold Cup Chess Tournament starting tomorrow (December 1). The total prize value of this tournament is up to nearly 2 billion VND. This is also the first domestic tournament Quang Liem has participated in after 10 years.
Before the tournament, on November 30, Quang Liem had an exchange and exhibition match in Ho Chi Minh City. The competition between Le Quang Liem and the young players took place in a special format. Accordingly, he will face 35 people at the same time. After each table, Le Quang Liem will make a move and then move to the next table.
Before the special match above, Le Quang Liem shared with the press, especially his personal goals for the future. "My goal in 2025 is to aim to be in the top 10 in the world," Quang Liem affirmed.
"In recent years, Vietnamese chess has developed strongly, not only in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi but also in other provinces and cities. The whole country has many potential and talented players. Currently, Vietnam has many tournaments for athletes to compete and practice regularly. This is a good sign for Vietnamese chess. In the past, I did not have many opportunities to compete in tournaments like young people today," Quang Liem added about the development of Vietnamese chess.
Regarding his wish to develop the country's chess, Le Quang Liem said: "My wish is to see chess taught officially in schools, especially primary and secondary schools. This will help chess to be widely developed in schools. I don't expect this to find top athletes, but this is also the foundation for selecting professional athletes."
