On the afternoon of November 10, at Tra Vinh Provincial Stadium (Ward 9, Tra Vinh City), the National Sports Motorcycle Racing Tournament for the Vietnam Sports Bicycle - Motorcycle Federation Cup (Round 4, 2024) officially took place.
Notably, among the 72 racers competing in the tournament, there was only one female racer, Nguyen Truong Hai Yen (born in 2002, District 12, Ho Chi Minh City), racing the 2-stroke SUZUKI Sport 120cc amateur model.
Sharing about her journey to passion, Hai Yen said she started racing in 2021. At first, she hid it from her family to race, but when she achieved many achievements, her family supported her more.
After 3 years of racing, Hai Yen has suffered many injuries, but mainly soft tissue injuries and not as serious as her male brothers.
The female athlete added that many times when racing with male racers, Hai Yen is often not welcomed by them. Because they think that if they win against a female racer, it is not an honor, and if they lose, they feel very frustrated. In terms of technique, some male racers also do not appreciate female racers. Therefore, Hai Yen can only prove herself with her own ability.
Hai Yen also hopes that in the future there will be more women's races so that those with passion or older sisters can burn out on the racetrack.
Regarding this tournament, Hai Yen said that she had rarely competed on a round course before, and had mainly raced on a two-turn course. Therefore, in the past few days, Hai Yen had to practice many times to get used to the track.
“I find today’s tournament to be a “tough one” because there are many experienced racers. But for me, this is a chance to learn from those who have gone before me,” Hai Yen said excitedly.
The motorcycle racing tournament is one of the activities responding to the Culture - Tourism Week associated with the Ok Om Bok Festival of Tra Vinh province in 2024. The tournament has 72 racers from localities and domestic units competing in 3 categories: professional category of 2-stroke YAZ 125cc; professional category of 4-stroke EXCITER 150cc and amateur category of 2-stroke SUZUKI Sport 120cc.
