On January 31, the Gresik Petrokimia club's homepage posted a short video announcing the departure of striker Tran Thi Thanh Thuy. Although the initial contract between the two sides lasted for one season, the 1997-born striker had to part ways with the Indonesian team after only one month of playing for the team.
Gresik Petrokimia is Thanh Thuy's 6th club abroad after Bangkok Glass (Thailand); Attack Line (Taiwan, China); Denso Airybees, PFU BlueCats (Japan) and Kuzeyboru (Türkiye). This is also Thanh Thuy's shortest overseas trip ever.
Thanh Thuy joined Gresik Petrokimia in early December 2024, after she ended her contract with Kuzeyboru club (Türkiye) early in November 2024.
The Proliga started in early January 2025. The striker born in 1997 and his teammates played 7 matches in January and only won 2 matches and ranked 5th/7 on the rankings.
Although she has just returned from injury, in the past 7 matches, Thanh Thuy has left a strong impression professionally, especially in the team's 2 wins.
In the opening match, she played excellently to help Gresik Petrokimia win 3-0 against the highly rated Jakarta Pertamina Enduro. The Vietnamese player was the top scorer for Gresik Petrokimia with 14 points (13 attack points, 1 ace serve, 52% scoring efficiency), and was also the second highest scorer in the entire match, just behind Nadila Leona of Jakarta Pertamina with 15 points.
In her third match, Thanh Thuy continued to show her good form with 11 points after 3 sets, contributing greatly to Gresik Petrokimia's convincing 3-0 victory over Yogya Falcons. This was also the second win for this team.
In the remaining 5 matches of January, Thanh Thuy and her teammates all had to accept defeat in different ways.
Compared to her time in Türkiye, in Indonesia, Thanh Thuy was given more opportunities to play. In terms of performance on the attack line, Thanh Thuy has not been stable because she has just returned from injury and has not received good passes from the setter.
However, in just a short period of time, the female striker from Binh Duong has shown her versatility as she can both attack and defend, and has a stable first step, bringing peace of mind to the whole team.
Joining Gresik Petrokimia has certainly helped the Vietnamese hitter regain his confidence after a long time struggling with a knee injury.
Off the field, Thanh Thuy is also a player loved by the team members. She always actively participates in collective activities, exchanges, and extracurricular activities, is energetic and brings laughter to everyone. Fluent use of foreign languages is also one of the factors that helps Thanh Thuy quickly integrate into this environment.
Currently, although the reason why Thanh Thuy and Gresik Petrokimia decided to terminate their contract early has not been disclosed, this farewell certainly brings much regret to Vietnamese and international volleyball fans.
Anyway, a month of competition in Indonesia also helped Thanh Thuy add another name to the "collection" of countries she appeared in during her volleyball career.
