Which team is suitable?
Shooting is a key sport in Vietnam. After the 2024 Paris Olympics (France), the leaders of the Department of Sports and Physical Training requested that the shooting sport (Department of Sports and Physical Training) review and specifically evaluate human resources to forecast expertise focused on the 20th ASIAD in 2026 and the Olympics in 2028. In addition, other important sports of Vietnam such as athletics, swimming, weightlifting... are also required to be reviewed.
The sports sector is still developing a Project to develop key sports for the ASIAD and Olympics until 2030, with a vision to 2045. The Project is being consulted for development. The completion of this Project is waiting for time. However, in order to put it into practice soon, experts and managers of many units and local managers hope that the Project will be completed soon.
According to the assessment, we have prepared for the 33rd SEA Games in 2025 in Thailand. If we can evaluate the expertise of the force well, it will be a stepping stone for Vietnamese sports to aim for the 20th ASIAD.
Through the case of shooting, when the Korean expert Park Chung-gun left, there are many concerns about whether Vietnamese sports will find a replacement coach to ensure the same achievements as in the 19th ASIAD arena. The results are still waiting ahead. The Vietnamese Shooting Team has started training now that expert Park Chung-gun is no longer there.
The Vietnamese athletics team did not win a medal at the 19th ASIAD and did not officially qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics, so the management must build more specific investments. Athletics has connected and has German expert Gunter Lange working to help perfect the long-term development plan.
After the 2024 Paris Olympics, weightlifting is considered ineffective. However, the issue of hiring or not hiring experts to work in accordance with the coaching staff is still being considered. Meanwhile, Vietnamese swimming continues to aim for the goal of winning medals at the 20th ASIAD, but the question is which athletes are capable of reaching medal achievements in this arena?
Long road but only 2 years of preparation
Two years later, the 20th Asian Games were held in Japan. The sports included in the 20th Asian Games program include aquatics (swimming, diving, long-distance swimming, water polo, synchronized swimming), archery, athletics, badminton, baseball, softball, basketball, bowling, boxing, modern dance, breaking, canoeing, cricket, cycling, artistic horse racing, e-sports, fencing, field hockey, football, golf, gymnastics, handball, jujitsu, judo, kabaddi, karate, kurash, modern pentathlon, rowing, rugby 7, sailing, sepak takraw, skateboarding, mountain climbing, surfing, squash, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, triathlon, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, wushu.
Vietnamese sports will participate with specific content and not excluding the content being a continuation of the preparation from the previous SEA Games 33 with ASIAD 20.
Assessing after the 2024 Paris Olympics, the leaders of the Department of Physical Training and Sports need to check to ensure the best force with potential in the sports in which we have strong content.
Director of the Department of Physical Training and Sports Dang Ha Viet once expressed his opinion at the Industry Conference at that time that Vietnamese sports must carry out important tasks in each arena of SEA Games, ASIAD, and Olympics. In practice, we are making key investments in key sports, in important content groups. However, we cannot only invest in a few sports but must have a synthesis and general development of all sports.
Should the sports industry develop a key investment project for a specific sport (possibly shooting). That question is waiting to be answered. If this program exists and the project is implemented, it will be the most specific example of whether key investment is successful or not, helping managers see the reality and other sports learn from experience. Football is the only sport in Vietnam that has its own development strategy.
