The responsibility of being at the top of the SEA Games for Vietnamese sports

HOÀI VIỆT |

The mission of Vietnamese sports is to focus on improving achievements in the ASIAD and Olympic arenas but still ensure achievements in the top group at the SEA Games.

What are the opportunities at SEA Games 33?

The 33rd SEA Games host organizing committee has sent an official document to the Olympic Committees of Southeast Asian countries to specifically announce the sports to be held in the above competition.

At the above arena, the 33rd SEA Games has the following events: Aquatics (swimming, diving, water polo, synchronized swimming), athletics, archery, badminton, basketball, canoeing and rowing, cycling, artistic horse racing, fencing, handball, golf, gymnastics, hockey, judo, rugby, sailing, shooting, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, triathlon, volleyball, wrestling, skating, ice hockey, weightlifting; baseball and softball, billiards & snooker, boxing, floorball, e-sports, muay, netball, pencak silat, petanque, sepak takraw, squash, bowling, karate, jujitsu, wushu, kabaddi, teqball, kickboxing, bowls, chess; discus throw, tug of war, aerial sports. Discus throw, tug of war and aerial sports are for demonstration purposes only and are not counted in the overall rankings.

The strategy for the development of Vietnam's Sports until 2030, with a vision to 2045, clearly states that the important goal for the Southeast Asian Games is that Vietnamese sports will regularly maintain a position in the top 2 at the SEA Games. Vietnamese sports and other countries have not yet registered specific content and number of people for the 33rd SEA Games. This Games will be held in December 2025.

Football is still important

Football at the 33rd SEA Games will be organized in 4 events including men's and women's football on the field and men's and women's indoor football (futsal). It is almost certain that Vietnamese football will participate in all 4 events above.

The most recent futsal event held at the SEA Games was the 31st SEA Games in 2022 in Vietnam. At that time, the Vietnamese men's futsal team won the Bronze Medal and the women's futsal team won the Silver Medal. The results at the 2024 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship (Vietnam women's futsal won the championship, Vietnam men's futsal was runner-up) are the motivation for our football team to aim for medals at the 33rd SEA Games.

Above all, we are still waiting to win the Gold Medal in men's football. Representatives of the Vietnam Olympic Committee and the Vietnam Sports and Physical Training Department attended the meeting of the Southeast Asian Sports Council and the Organizing Committee of the 33rd SEA Games held in Bangkok (Thailand) on October 25. Upon returning, they shared very specifically that all countries are determined to prepare the best forces for the upcoming SEA Games. In particular, football is of special interest. The above meeting is the meeting that officially decides on 569 events of the 33rd SEA Games.

“The host country Thailand has made careful preparations and is aiming for specific medal achievements in the participating sports. Therefore, the competition for achievements is expected to be very fierce,” said a representative of the Vietnam Olympic Committee.

SEA Games 33-2025 will take place from December 9 to December 20, 2025.
