Winning a medal at the 33rd SEA Games is also considered a success for the Vietnamese tennis team.

The Vietnamese tennis team has left for Thailand to participate in the 33rd SEA Games, taking place from December 9 to 20.

The men's team has 5 players including: Vu Ha Minh Duc, Tu Le Khanh Duy, Dinh Viet Tuan Minh, Nguyen Van Phuong and Nguyen Minh Phat. The team will be led by coach Nguyen Phi Anh Vu.

Meanwhile, the women's team will have athletes including Savanna Ly Nguyen, Chanelle Van Nguyen, Ngo Hong Hanh, Tran Thuy Thanh Truc and Nguyen Thi Mai Linh. The team will be led by coach Tran Dai Nghia.

Tennis at the 33rd SEA Games has 7 events including: Men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, mixed doubles, men's team and women's team. The Vietnamese tennis team will participate in all 7 events, starting from December 10.

Despite participating with a large force, competing in all events, the opportunity to win a medal with the Vietnamese tennis team is still a big challenge. The absence of many key players, due to switching to competing in other sports such as Ly Hoang Nam, Trinh Linh Giang..., greatly affected the strength of the team.

In the last 3 SEA Games, the Vietnamese tennis team has always been in the Top 4 in terms of achievements. The athletes brought home a total of 17 medals. Most notably, the 2 gold medals in the men's singles event both belonged to Ly Hoang Nam at the 30th and 31st SEA Games. At the 32nd SEA Games, Ly Hoang Nam also entered the final but lost to tennis player Muhammad Rifqi Fitriadi in the final.

Many Vietnamese players are participating in the SEA Games for the first time, while opponents in the region all send their strongest forces. For example, the Thai tennis team boldly set a goal of winning 4 gold medals when competing at home. They gather the best force, along with hanging high bonuses to encourage the players.

In the women's event, the 33rd SEA Games will gather many players in the Top 200 WTA, notably Alexandra Eala from the Philippines. This tennis player is ranked 52nd in the world. Eala reached the semi-finals of the WTA 1000 Miami Open in March 2025 and her first WTA 125 title at Guadalajara.

Eala is the most searched Philippine female character on Google in 2025. She was honored to hold the flag of the Philippine sports delegation at the opening ceremony of the 33rd SEA Games. The tennis player's goal is nothing other than the gold medal.

In that context, the goal that the Vietnamese tennis team set is a bronze medal in some events. Hopefully, there will be many women's tennis players, with the presence of Savanna Ly Nguyen - who won medals at 3 previous SEA Games, notably the silver medal in women's doubles at the 30th SEA Games.

Preparing for the SEA Games, the Vietnamese tennis team has focused on training at the Ho Chi Minh City National Sports Training Center. In addition, the players have also participated in many quality tournaments such as the M15 NovaWorld Phan Thiet with the participation of Vu Ha Minh Duc (AP Sports Club), Dinh Viet Tuan Minh (HCMC), Tu Le Khanh Duy (Army), or the W15 Phan Thiet tournaments of Ngo Hong Hanh (Army) and Nguyen Thi Mai Linh (Hanoi). That helps them get the best preparation, aiming for the challenging goal at the 33rd SEA Games.

"The 33rd SEA Games is an opportunity for Vietnamese tennis players to compete and develop. The Federation will always monitor and support each step of the team.

I believe that with careful preparation, solidarity and high determination, the Vietnamese tennis team will shine in the Southeast Asian arena. Wishing the team to be strong, confident and compete with all their might for the national flag and shirt, said Mr. Nguyen Quoc Ky - President of the Vietnam Tennis Federation.
