The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) will sign a contract with Lee Won-jae, a legendary goalkeeper of Korean football. He will be the goalkeeper coach for the Vietnamese team in the ASEAN Cup 2024 and subsequent tournaments such as the Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers.
Lee Won-jae, born in 1973, played for the Korean national team for 18 years and played 132 international matches. He also participated in 4 World Cups in 1994, 2002, 2006 and 2010. Lee Won-jae was named in the K.League's best team 10 times.
During his football career, he won the Asian Cup 1 time, the K.League 4 times, won 3 Korean FA Cup titles, 4 League Cup titles, 2 Korean Super Cups and many other titles.
According to Korean media, coach Kim Sang-sik personally invited Lee Won-jae to work in Vietnam. Lee Won-jae will start working with the Vietnamese team in November, when the team goes to Korea to train in preparation for the 2024 ASEAN Cup.
The 2024 ASEAN Cup will take place from December 9, 2024 to January 5, 2025. According to the draw results, the Vietnamese team is in the same group with Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar and Laos. The goal of coach Kim Sang-sik and his students is to reach the final of this year's tournament.
