According to Decree 349 just issued by the Government, an athlete who wins an Olympic gold medal and sets a new record can receive a total bonus of up to 4.9 billion VND.
In which, the bonus for the Olympic gold medal is 3.5 billion VND. If breaking the Olympic record, the additional bonus for athletes is 1.4 billion VND. This bonus level has never appeared in the previous sports policy system.
For the remaining rankings, the Olympic silver medal was paid 2.2 billion VND and the bronze medal received a bonus of 1.4 billion VND.
Not only Olympics, Decree 349 also adjusts the bonus level for major arenas.
In the Youth Olympics, athletes who win gold medals receive 400 million VND, silver medals 250 million VND and bronze medals 150 million VND. If breaking the Games record, the bonus level plus is 150 million VND.
At ASIAD, the value of each medal is 280 million VND (yellow), 170 million VND (silver) and 110 million VND (dong), with a record break bonus of 110 million VND respectively.
SEA Games continues to apply a new prize framework with 54 million VND for gold medals, 30 million VND for silver medals and 24 million VND for bronze medals, plus 24 million if a new record is set.
For disabled sports, the policy also recognizes extraordinary efforts. Paralympic champions are rewarded 2.2 billion VND, silver medals receive 1.4 billion VND and bronze medals are 850 million VND; breaking the Paralympic record is added 850 million VND.
In the Youth Paralympics, the Asian Para Games and the ASEAN Para Games both have their own prize levels, ranging from tens to hundreds of millions of VND depending on the level and type of medal.
A noteworthy new point is the policy of supporting athletes. In addition to the monthly salary, athletes who achieve special achievements also receive long-term allowances throughout the 4-year cycle.
Specifically, the Olympic gold medal is supported with 40 million VND/month, the silver medal is 30 million VND and the bronze medal is 20 million VND. This is considered an important step, showing the determination to invest sustainably for the Olympic goal of Vietnamese sports.
