Black Friday, also known as "Dark Friday", takes place on the first Friday after Thanksgiving (an annual holiday mainly celebrated in the United States and Canada).
Black Friday 2024 falls on November 29 according to the international calendar. This is also the biggest discount day of the year, an opportunity for brands and businesses to launch many attractive promotions to attract consumers.
In Vietnam, Black Friday is also introduced with discount programs, promotions, and shopping incentives 1-2 weeks before and after the official holiday.
The shopping atmosphere gradually fades away
According to Lao Dong reporters, in Hanoi, large shopping centers, many fashion brands, and stores simultaneously launched discount programs of up to 50 - 80%, many items at the same price, or buy 1 get 1 free... However, the number of shoppers this year is considered quite sparse.
Ms. Nguyen Linh Nhi (Long Bien district, Hanoi) shared: "In previous years, Black Friday sales made people excited because they could buy their favorite items at bargain prices. But this year, the atmosphere has faded a lot.
Now go to e-commerce platforms on weekdays, apply discount codes, sometimes even cheaper during holidays without having to go shopping.
For Ms. Bui Thi Nhung (Dong Anh district, Hanoi), this year she is not looking forward to the Black Friday shopping holiday like last year. She thinks that promotional and discount programs are no longer attractive to customers.
"This sale is the same every year, almost always only applied to old products, last season's collections, rarely promoting new products. Moreover, shopping is now much more convenient than previous years thanks to online shopping applications. Therefore, I have somewhat reduced my excitement for this shopping holiday" - Ms. Nhung said.
Promotions throughout the month
Sharing with Lao Dong, Ms. Nguyen Hong Nhung - owner of a clothing store in Dong Anh district, Hanoi - said: "Currently, many customers are no longer interested in traditional shopping at the store. Almost everyone has switched to online shopping channels. Therefore, I have been selling in parallel both at the store and on e-commerce platforms.
This Black Friday, I will be running promotions on both sales channels at the same time. To attract more purchases, I will also extend the discount period for the products, from mid-November to early December."
For Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan - owner of a shoe store in Long Bien district (Hanoi), in addition to creating promotional programs to attract customers, his store will give away gifts for each order.
"On holidays like this, I always hang promotional signs or post articles on social media platforms 2 weeks in advance to let customers know.
At this time, the number of customers coming to buy directly at the store is somewhat less, so I also have to think of many different forms of promotion. For example, orders worth 2.5 million VND or more will be given shirts to customers, these shirts can be printed according to their preferences. With invoices of lower value, we will give tote bags, key chains..." - Mr. Tuan said.
