Domestic pepper prices: Reversal and decrease prices this week
As of 11:30 today (December 7), domestic pepper prices are trading between 147,500 - 149,000 VND/kg, an average decrease of 2,000 - 2,500 VND/kg compared to last week depending on the region.
At the end of last week, Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai recorded the sharpest decrease of VND2,500/kg, down to VND147,000-148,000/kg. Meanwhile, the owner of the growing area in Gia Lai once returned to the lowest area of the week when it decreased by 3,000 VND/kg, anchored at 147,500 VND/kg.
Dak Lak and Lam Dong regions both decreased by VND3,000/kg, commonly at VND149,000/kg.
World pepper prices: Developments in the same direction
According to the International Pepper Company (IPC), world pepper prices have mostly decreased.
In particular, the price of Indonesian black pepper decreased by 141 USD/ton compared to last week, down to 6,995 USD/ton. In the same direction, the price of Indonesian white pepper decreased by 74 USD/ton last week, reaching 9,643 USD/ton.
Similarly, Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper is being offered for sale at 6,150 USD/ton, down 25 USD/ton. ASTA Malaysia black and white pepper prices decreased from 200-300 USD/ton for the whole week, selling at 9,000 USD/ton and 12,000 USD/ton respectively.
In Vietnam, black pepper prices for export remained unchanged before the closing price of the week, at 6,500-6,700 USD/ton for the 500 g/l and 550 g/l types.
Assessment and forecast
The Vietnamese pepper industry has gone through a long period of decline in output as farmers have massly switched to higher-yielding crops such as coffee and durian. This trend causes a sharp decrease in consumption area, limited supply and creates upward pressure on domestic prices as well as in the global market.
Experts say that Vietnamese pepper is entering a long price increase cycle that can last up to 10 years. Some forecasts even say that domestic pepper prices in 2026 may reach VND 200,000/kg if supply does not meet demand. This is considered a record high in many years.
