Open late for Tet holiday business
Tet is coming, while most industries and services have gradually closed for the holidays, many hair salons, eyelash extensions, and nail salons are still "running" at full capacity.
Ms. Thanh Kim Oanh's nail salon (Dong Da, Hanoi) is usually open from 8am to 6pm. However, since the beginning of December, due to the surge in customers, the salon often works overtime until late at night.
“This year the economy is difficult, my shop usually only has 3-5 customers/day, but since the beginning of the 12th lunar month until now, the number of customers has increased significantly.On winter days, we can serve 15-20 customers.
At this time, many people have not had Tet holiday yet, so customers are usually most crowded around 3-5 pm or a little later in the evening.Most people will take advantage of the time after work to come and get their beauty done," Ms. Oanh shared.
According to research, during Tet, each nail set costs an average of 200,000 - 500,000 VND or more depending on the sophistication.For shops like Ms. Oanh's, income can be up to 4-5 million VND/day.
Similarly, to meet the increasing demand for beauty services during the days leading up to Tet, the hair salon where Mr. Hoai Nam (Cau Giay, Hanoi) works has had to hire more assistants to have enough staff to serve customers. The prices of services have therefore increased by about 30 - 50% compared to normal days.
"For male customers, the average price of services ranges from 200,000 - 500,000 VND/person. For female customers, it is usually from 500,000 to several million VND/person because women mainly choose hair curling, coloring or hair care services.
The number of customers increases towards the end of the year. There are days when we work overtime from early morning to late at night, forgetting to eat. With such a high workload, the income of each store employee can double, ranging from 20 to 25 million VND during this peak month," said Mr. Hoai Nam.
Willing to wait many hours to beautify With the desire to have the most satisfactory appearance to celebrate Tet, many people are willing to spend a lot of time and money to beautify themselves.
To have the nails to her liking, Ms. Bui Trang My (Cau Dien, Hanoi) is willing to wait 4 hours to have the service done.
"Everyone wants to be beautiful and radiant during Tet.Not only me but many of my friends are also willing to wait many hours to beautify themselves.I have been working all year, so spending a little time to beautify and take care of myself during Tet is worth it.
Going to the beauty salon these days means having to wait and having higher prices than usual. Many shops have increased their prices by 20-50% but are still crowded. There are years when I accept waiting 2-3 hours for my turn to have a set of nails done or accept having them done early in the morning or late at night,” Trang My shared.
Similar to Ms. My, to get a satisfactory hairstyle done by a famous hair salon in Tran Quy Kien (Cau Giay, Hanoi), Ms. Thuy Duong had to make an appointment a week in advance and spend many hours on beauty treatments at a not small cost.
"For many years, I have only worked at this shop. During Tet, the shop is very crowded. To have an appointment today, I had to make an appointment with the shop a week ago. To get the hairstyle I wanted, I had to use the cutting, dyeing, and curling services, and the total time was 6 hours.
Hairdressing is one of the biggest expenses for my appearance during Tet. I think spending a few million VND on hairdressing is normal. I have worked hard all year, so it is normal to reward myself a little bit," Ms. Duong shared.
