Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, the second in line behind the US President and Vice President, became the highest US leader to visit Ukraine since the Russia-Ukraine war broke out.
The visit of the US House of Representatives representative marked an important US support for Ukraine. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Kiev was not previously announced, the AP noted.
Video released by President Volodymyr Zelensky's office on May 1 shows Pelosi in Kiev with a US congressional delegation consisting of lawmakers Jason Crow, Jim McGovern and Adam Schiff.
Ukrainian President Zelensky welcomed the delegation outdoors before entering the meeting room together. "I thank you for this signal of strong support from the US, the people and the National Assembly - the support of the bipartisan and bipartisan governments," said Ukrainian President Zelensky.
According to the Ukrainian leader, this shows that the US is today the leader in strongly supporting Ukraine in the war with Russia.
"We believe that we came to you to thank you for fighting for freedom. We are on the line of freedom and your fight is a fight for everyone. Our commitment is to be there for you until the end of the war," Pelosi told Zelensky.
