In a statement titled The Flag at the US Embassy in Kiev, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken described reopening the diplomatic representative office as an important step. The US flag was raised over the Embassy building in a brief ceremony.
Mr. Blinken said: "We are proud and continue to support the government and people of Ukraine to protect the country".
The US Secretary of State explained that the temporary suspension of operations was necessary for the safety of the Embassy staff, but when it reopened, the Embassy took additional measures to protect staff.
We reaffirm our commitment to the people and government of Ukraine and we hope to fulfill our mission from the US Embassy in Kiev, Blinken said.

The Foreign Ministry official added that direct consular services, including those for US citizens and visa services, will remain suspended until further notice.
In recent weeks, several countries have also reopened their embassies in the Ukrainian capital, including Canada, Denmark, the UK, Italy, France and Armenia. On May 17, Israeli Ambassador Michael Brodsky posted a photo of the flag-raising ceremony in Kiev.
