On the morning of April 23, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held an international scientific conference "50 years of national reunification: The role of diplomacy in creating peace in history and the present".
Attending and speaking at the Workshop, Member of the Politburo, President Luong Cuong emphasized: "Each nation of the world in the world, whether large or small in general, experienced landmark moments, historical turns determined their destiny and development path. One term, the Vietnamese people entered the new era, the era of independence and unity, the whole country went to socialism. "
According to President Luong Cuong, half a century has passed, but the historical significance and profound lessons from the victory of April 30, 1975 for Vietnamese diplomacy in creating peace, protecting and building the Fatherland of Vietnam are still relevant, national and contemporary.

The President pointed out that the role of Vietnamese diplomacy in creating peace has been demonstrated throughout history, from the struggle for national liberation, national reunification to building and developing the country in peace.
First of all, diplomacy has mobilized great support, both material and spiritual, from socialist countries and progressive peoples around the world, creating a large international movement that has never supported the just struggle of the Vietnamese people.
"In the history of the 20th century, few ethnic struggles have gathered widespread and strong support both domestically and abroad like our Vietnamese people" - President Luong Cuong said.
Second, diplomacy has closely coordinated with the military and political front, opening up a situation where it is both playing and negotiating, thereby gaining an advantage step by step, creating a premise for the struggle to liberate the South and unify the country to victory.
"The fierce intellectual struggles on the negotiation table of the Geneva Conference in 1954, the Paris Conference from 1968 to 1973 of Vietnamese diplomats, typically comrades Pham Van Dong, Le Duc Tho, Nguyen Thi Binh, Nguyen Duy Trinh, Xuan Thuy... have gone down in history, affirming Vietnamese bravery and intelligence, making the opponent admire.
The Paris Agreement in 1973 became the peak of the victory of Vietnamese diplomacy in the Ho Chi Minh era, completing a period of the resistance war as "fighting for the US". After the Paris Agreement was signed, diplomacy continued to play an important role in promoting the parties to implement the Agreement, especially forcing the US to withdraw troops from the South, creating an important premise to "fight for puppet" on April 30, 1975, win the complete, completely liberating the South, unifying the country " - President Luong Cuong shared.
Third, diplomacy has made an important contribution to the country's reconstruction, successfully implementing the foreign policy in the renovation period, opening up a favorable foreign situation for national construction and defense.
President Luong Cuong emphasized: The 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South, unifying the Fatherland is a great political event, a victory with the historical significance of the Vietnamese nation, and also the common victory of the progressive people worldwide, showing the aspiration of peace, independence, freedom and happiness.
"A year has passed, but the timeliness and profound timeliness of the Vietnamese story is still intact, shining brightly along the journey to find sustainable peace, dialogue, healing the wounds of war, national harmony, reconstruction and development" - the President said.
