Ben Tre rolls out the red carpet for new and renewable energy investors

Ben Tre - With a 65km long coastline, Ben Tre has great potential to develop renewable energy and new energy projects.

On the afternoon of October 2, the People's Committee of Ben Tre province organized a workshop on new energy and renewable energy - Investment potential and resources. This is one of a series of events of the Ben Tre province Investment Promotion Conference in 2024.

Attending the event were Mr. Nguyen Hoa Binh - Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister of the Government; leaders of central ministries and branches; leaders of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Committee of Ben Tre province and departments, branches, domestic and foreign enterprises.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Mr. Tran Ngoc Tam - Chairman of Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee - said that with a 65km long coastline, the locality has great potential to develop renewable energy and new energy projects. In recent years, Ben Tre has achieved exciting achievements in many fields, including the energy sector. Currently, Ben Tre province has granted investment policies and focused on implementing 19 wind power projects with a total capacity of more than 1,007 MW; 9 projects have completed basic construction and installation work with a total installed capacity of 365.9 MW, of which 250.75 MW have been commercially operated, the remaining installed capacity is 115.15 MW, investors are completing legal procedures.

In addition, the People's Committee of Ben Tre province has also submitted to the Prime Minister a proposal to implement the "Ben Tre Green Hydrogen Complex" project as a pilot project for the hydrogen production industry in Vietnam, along with self-produced and self-consumed solar and wind power projects to provide input energy for the "Ben Tre Green Hydrogen Complex".

According to the Chairman of Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee, the energy transition is also determined by the province from the available potential of renewable energy such as wind power, solar power and especially offshore wind power in the form of self-production and self-consumption without connection to the grid to produce new energy sources. This type is identified as one of the key industries that Ben Tre will focus on developing in the coming years.

In order for Ben Tre to achieve the above goals of developing clean energy and renewable energy, Ms. Phan Thi Thang - Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade - suggested that in the coming time, Ben Tre province needs to build an open investment mechanism and reform administrative procedures to promote investment. Along with that, create a mechanism to encourage energy enterprises to increase investment in research and development. Continue to implement the national key science and technology program for the period 2021 - 2030, focusing on research and manufacturing of energy equipment and application of new forms of energy and renewable energy.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Hoa Binh - Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister of the Government - welcomed Ben Tre as the first locality to organize a workshop on new energy, renewable energy, especially hydrogen energy. Permanent Deputy Prime Minister of the Government said that this demonstrates the vision and aspiration to develop green, sustainable energy, in line with global trends and this is also a major policy of the Party. Especially, we are in the process of preparing documents for the 14th National Party Congress and the green transformation content in these documents is increasingly high.

Permanent Deputy Prime Minister of the Government said that the workshop mentioned difficulties in law, technology, capital, and human resources, which have been recognized and will be resolved. In the near future, the Government has completed the documents to submit to the National Assembly at the 8th session in October to amend the Electricity Law and pave the way for the development of renewable energy, offshore wind power and gradually complete the legal infrastructure.

At the same time, we listen to businesses, perfect the legal infrastructure for green economic development and regularly remove difficulties and obstacles. I hope Ben Tre province will soon become a model hydrogen energy center of the country" - Deputy Prime Minister of the Government emphasized.
