The Ministry of National Defense said that, implementing the unit's training plan, Lieutenant pilot Dinh Thanh Trung, Air Regiment 940, Air Officer School, Air Defense - Air Force Command controlled the YAK-130 aircraft, performing the flight (Article 5+3), and was ordered to take off at 7:27 am on January 28, 2026.
During flight, the plane encountered an incident, lost contact at 7:44 am, pilot Dinh Thanh Trung made efforts to handle and fix the technical problem but failed.
The pilot controlled the plane away from residential areas, when the position was chosen, the pilot turned on the parachute to escape safely and was supported by people to take him to the hospital. Currently, the pilot's health has recovered.
The plane crashed into Hon Vinh mountain (Dong Hoa ward area, Dak Lak province), not affecting people and works, residential areas.
Currently, the unit is coordinating with functional agencies to investigate the cause; coordinating with local authorities and armed forces to organize forces and means of search and rescue to approach the location where the plane crashed.
