On the afternoon of April 20, at the IC12 intersection in Ho Thi Ky commune and the IC10 intersection in Tan Phu commune, Thoi Binh district, Ca Mau province, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the working delegation surveyed the progress of the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project.

Reporting to the Prime Minister and the delegation, the Ministry of Construction said that up to now, contractors have mobilized 183 constructions, 971 machinery and equipment, 3,000 manpower, organized construction of overtime, construction output reached 66% of the plan (4% slow compared to expected). In particular, the route has completed the load of 74.9km (reaching 89.84%), the bridge part has implemented 95/95 bridges on the main route, meeting the progress.
Regarding disbursement, the accumulated disbursement to date has reached 15,778/22,222 billion VND of allocated capital (reaching 71%.
Also according to the report of the Ministry of Construction, since December 15, 2024, after the Prime Minister's meeting with ministries, branches, localities and instructions to remove difficulties and obstacles, the project's construction progress has had significant changes. Difficulties in materials have been resolved by localities, output has increased, 3.1 million m3 of sand and 0.7 million m3 of stone have been gathered, and the loading work has increased by 50.5km.

Reporting to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the leader of Ca Mau province said that according to preliminary estimates, to clear the expressway section from Ca Mau city to Dat Mui to connect with Hon Khoai Port cluster in the future, Ca Mau will only try to get about 1,000 billion VND, the remaining about 1,000 billion VND must rely on support from the Central Government.
Directing at the construction site, the Prime Minister proposed to inaugurate it on December 19, 2025. To achieve this, it is necessary to construct more quickly, be more determined, and focus all resources to complete the entire route.

The Prime Minister also suggested that when there are highways, the locality should put them into operation most effectively, which is to develop the economy, education, especially tourism. Regarding the expressway from Ca Mau city to Dat Mui, the Prime Minister agreed with Ca Mau's proposal on land clearance funding.
The Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project has a main route length of 110.85km (through Can Tho city is 0.6km, Hau Giang province is 63.65km, Bac Lieu province is 7.7km, Kien Giang province is 17km, Ca Mau province is 21.9km) and 25.85km connecting route. The project is divided into 2 component projects including the Can Tho - Hau Giang section and the Hau Giang - Ca Mau section invested by the My Thuan Project Management Board, with a scale of 4 lanes, a total investment of VND 27,523 billion. The project started on January 1, 2023, and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025.
