The Prime Minister requested to restore the delayed progress, completing the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway in June 2026.

On the afternoon of March 18, at the Government Headquarters, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired an online meeting with 4 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta (MD) including An Giang, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, Can Tho on the progress of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway project.

Concluding the meeting, the Prime Minister said that it is planned to build 1,200 km of expressway in the Mekong Delta by 2030, and about 400-600 km must be completed in this term alone.

Of which, the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway is a vital expressway passing through 4 localities in the dynamic region of the Southwest, along with a series of other strategic transport infrastructure projects in the region such as the North - South Expressway, Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3.

The Prime Minister said that since the beginning of this term, agencies have made efforts to find capital (increase revenue, save expenditure, transfer capital from other projects), and implement investment procedures to build this expressway.

The Prime Minister requested to recover the delayed progress and further speed up the progress, completing the project in June 2026, while ensuring quality, because the earlier it is completed, the higher the efficiency.

To do so, the Prime Minister directed that the site clearance work must be completed by March 2025, and the Vietnam Electricity Group must urgently relocate high-voltage power poles.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the total amount of sand is not lacking, the problems and difficulties are due to management work.

Leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the Ministry of Construction in the same locality, under the direction of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, focused on reviewing and thoroughly handling problems related to construction materials, not allowing contractors to complain about a shortage of construction materials.

The Ministry of Construction works with contractors, exchanges and guides on technical measures to improve productivity, shorten time and ensure quality.

The Prime Minister also directed to strengthen inspection and supervision, the Ministry of Public Security investigates, detects and strictly handles violations (if any).

The Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway Construction Investment Project Phase 1 is 188.2 km long, with a scale of 4 lanes, a total investment of VND 44,691 billion; the progress requires the completion of the entire route in 2026 and the completion of the entire project to be put into synchronous operation in 2027.

The project is divided into 4 component projects, project 1 is managed by the People's Committee of An Giang province, 57 km long, with a total investment of 13,526 billion VND.

Project 2 is managed by the People's Committee of Can Tho city, 37.4 km long, with a total investment of VND 9,725 billion.

Project 3 is managed by Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee, 36.7 km long, with a total investment of VND 9,601 billion.

Project 4 is managed by the People's Committee of Soc Trang province, about 58.4 km long, with a total investment of VND 11,961 billion.

Regarding construction, project 1 reached 46% of the contract value, basically meeting the requirements on output. Project 2 reached 25% of the contract value, 15% behind schedule. Project 3 reached 35% of the contract value, basically meeting the requirements on output. Project 4 reached 25% of the contract value, 8% behind schedule.
