
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Luong Cuong welcomed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's return to visit Vietnam, emphasizing that the visit is of great significance as the two countries have just become Comprehensive Strategic Partners; sent his condolences to the King and Queen of Malaysia; congratulated Malaysia on many important achievements, especially in economy, role and increasingly high international position; and believed that Malaysia will successfully take on the responsibility of ASEAN Chair 2025.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his pleasure at meeting President Luong Cuong again after the impressive meeting at the APEC Summit in 2024; thanked the Vietnamese side for their warm and respectful reception for the delegation; affirmed that Malaysia always attaches importance to and wishes to develop the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries deeply and comprehensively, worthy of the newly established framework of relations.
The two leaders expressed their satisfaction with the positive and substantial results in the bilateral relationship, including the official visit to Malaysia by General Secretary To Lam in November 2024, especially the vibrant development of trade - investment, labor, education - training, and people-to-people exchange. The two sides agreed that the demand and potential for cooperation between the two countries are still very large, especially in the fields of defense - security, green development, digital transformation, oil and gas, fisheries, halal food and tourism.
Discussing international and regional issues, the two leaders highly appreciated the close coordination between the two countries at regional and international forums such as ASEAN, the United Nations, APEC, etc.
President Luong Cuong highly appreciated the vision and important opinions of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in his speech at the 2nd ASEAN Future Forum; affirmed that Vietnam will closely coordinate with Malaysia to implement the set priorities, towards a "sustainable and inclusive" ASEAN Community in line with the theme of ASEAN this year, helping to strengthen solidarity and the central role of ASEAN.
Regarding the East Sea issue, the two leaders agreed to continue to coordinate and work with other countries to maintain ASEAN's common view on the East Sea, ensure full and serious implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), promote negotiations and develop a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) that is effective and efficient, in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
