National Assembly Chairman meets with New Zealand Prime Minister

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man highly appreciated the results of the exchanges between New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Vietnamese leaders.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that on the morning of February 27, 2025, at the National Assembly House, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man had a meeting with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon on the occasion of the Prime Minister's official visit to Vietnam and attendance at the second ASEAN Future Forum.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man welcomed Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and the New Zealand delegation to an official visit to Vietnam and attend the second ASEAN Future Forum; emphasizing that this is an important visit on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1975-2025).

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon congratulated Vietnam on its outstanding socio-economic development achievements and assessed Vietnam as a bright spot in the region in both economic development and ensuring social justice.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his satisfaction with the continuous development of bilateral relations over the past 50 years, saying that upgrading bilateral relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is an important historical milestone, marking the 50-year development journey of bilateral relations as well as opening a new period, a period of cooperation with a deeper scale, more trust and strategy.

The National Assembly Chairman highly appreciated the results of the exchanges between Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and the Vietnamese leaders, expressing his confidence that the two countries will continue to closely coordinate, concretize the high-level agreements reached as well as the contents of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the coming time.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man was also pleased to note that cooperation between the two countries' Parliaments is very close, contributing positively to the overall results both from a bilateral perspective and at multilateral Parliament forums; affirmed that the Vietnamese National Assembly will continue to strongly support the implementation of cooperation programs and agreements between the two countries in the coming time.

The two leaders agreed to continue to increase exchanges and exchanges of experiences between high-level delegations, ministries, departments, localities and organizations, including the Committees and groups of parliamentarians of the two countries; expand cooperation in new areas such as climate change response, equitable energy transition, green economy, smart agriculture adapting to climate change.

The New Zealand Prime Minister affirmed that he will continue to support Vietnam in improving the quality of agricultural products with high export value, implementing climate change response projects, helping to train English for Vietnamese source staff, and encouraging New Zealand's major universities to strengthen their linkages with Vietnamese universities, meeting the needs of developing high-quality human resources in Vietnam.

The two sides agreed to continue coordinating and supporting each other at regional and international forums. The New Zealand Prime Minister affirmed his strong support for ASEAN's central role and hoped to soon establish a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between ASEAN and New Zealand.

On this occasion, the National Assembly Chairman sent his regards and invitation to National Assembly Chairman Gerry Brownlee to soon pay an official visit to Vietnam. The New Zealand Prime Minister also expressed his hope to soon welcome the National Assembly Chairman to pay an official visit to New Zealand in the near future.
