Opportunity to enhance national science and technology potential
General Secretary To Lam emphasized this request during a working session with the Standing Committee of the Ninh Thuan Provincial Party Committee this morning (December 5), according to VNA.
Accordingly, General Secretary To Lam and the Central Working Delegation visited and worked with the Standing Committee of the Ninh Thuan Provincial Party Committee on the results of the implementation of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and the Resolution of the 14th Provincial Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term; the results of the implementation of Directive 35-CT/TW of the Politburo on Party congresses at all levels towards the 14th National Party Congress; the process of implementing the investment policy for the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project in the past time.
Concluding the working session, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, the General Secretary acknowledged and warmly commended the achievements that the Party Committee, government, army and people of Ninh Thuan have achieved in the past time.
Regarding some current difficulties with wind and solar power projects, the General Secretary requested the Government, ministries, branches, especially the Ministry of Industry and Trade to quickly remove bottlenecks in mechanisms, policies, and obstacles, to promote the development of national energy projects in general, including energy projects in Ninh Thuan.
Regarding nuclear power, the National Assembly recently decided to continue implementing the policy of investing in Ninh Thuan nuclear power after 8 years of suspension. The General Secretary emphasized that in the world today, nuclear power is increasingly being chosen and developed by many countries.
There have been some accidents with nuclear power plants in history, but the probability is extremely low. Moreover, current nuclear technologies have advanced very far, going through many new generations compared to previous old technologies.
Vietnam's urgent electricity demand is forecast to continue to increase. Developing nuclear power will help diversify supply sources, ensure energy security and green energy transition, helping Vietnam achieve its goal of net zero emissions by 2050 as committed at COP26.
Besides, this nuclear power project is also an opportunity for our country to develop high-quality human resources, enhance national science and technology potential, participate in the global nuclear power industry supply chain, and be able to learn and master the world's nuclear technology in the future.
Choose the best technology, ensure safe and efficient operation
The General Secretary hopes that the people of Ninh Thuan and neighboring localities will share and dedicate resources (land, resources) to develop energy projects to serve the development of the whole country, which will certainly have to be redistributed, and they will enjoy the worthy fruits of development.
The Party and the State will have to ensure the selection of the best nuclear technologies, the best consulting partners, and the training of the best management personnel to ensure the safe and effective operation of this national energy project, not only for the present generation but also for future generations.
Emphasizing that Ninh Thuan's development process has not yet matched its potential, the General Secretary pointed out strengths for development such as tourism potential; marine economy, seaports and logistics service centers; solar and wind power; salt and post-salt chemical industry.
The General Secretary requested Ninh Thuan province to closely combine economic development with ensuring national defense and security. Effectively carry out military and defense work, build a solid defense zone; synchronously deploy many measures to ensure security, order and social safety.
The province needs to prepare well the conditions to restart the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Plant according to the Central's policy, especially propaganda and dissemination work, creating high consensus and unity among cadres, party members and people of all walks of life during the implementation process.
