Mr. Le Van Minh - Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Propaganda Department of Ba Ria Vung Tau Provincial Party Committee - shared this information with Lao Dong reporter, on the occasion of organizing activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Binh Gia victory (December 2, 1964 - December 2, 2024).
According to Mr. Minh, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Binh Gia victory, the locality coordinated with relevant units to organize many activities to show gratitude and repay the kindness in the area. These included giving gifts to policy families in Chau Duc district, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province; offering incense at the Binh Gia Victory Monument and the Chau Duc District Martyrs' Cemetery; and organizing a scientific seminar "60 years of the Binh Gia victory - Historical values and lessons learned".
Discussing the socio-economic development situation of the province, Mr. Le Van Minh said that according to the policy of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, from 2025, Phu My town (old Tan Thanh district) will become Phu My city with a natural area of over 333 km2, a population of nearly 195,600 people with 8 wards and 2 communes.
Mr. Minh said that currently, Phu My town is one of the dynamically developing localities, the economic center of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. This is a town with all the elements such as seaport industry, tourism, high-tech industry. Phu My town also aims to be one of the two largest deep-water ports in the country.
According to Mr. Minh, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province has welcomed the world's largest ship in terms of tonnage. In the coming time, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province will continue to develop port clusters and form a free trade zone.
“With such development conditions, Ba Ria Vung Tau province has determined the policy of turning Phu My town into a city. Currently, Phu My town has met all the conditions and standards and the province has also prepared the procedures and documents to submit to the competent authorities for approval,” Mr. Le Van Minh informed.
Also according to Mr. Minh, the National Assembly Standing Committee recently issued Resolution No. 1256/NQ-UBTVQH15 on the arrangement of district and commune-level administrative units of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province for the period 2023 - 2025.
Accordingly, Long Dat district was established on the basis of merging the entire natural area of 77.67 km2, population of 155,438 people of Long Dien district and the entire natural area of 189.74 km2, population of 86,063 people of Dat Do district. After establishment, Long Dat district has a natural area of 267.42 km2 and a population of 241,501 people.
After the reorganization, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province has reduced 1 district-level administrative unit.
