Nghe An - Some localities named new communes after districts with serial numbers, some other localities named them with historical and traditional cultural elements.

In Nam Dan district, according to the plan to arrange commune-level administrative units submitted to the Provincial People's Committee, this locality will arrange 17 units into 5 units, reducing 12 units.

Notably, regarding the plan to name 5 communes, 4 communes are named Nam Dan and the order numbers from I to IV. In addition, Nam Dan kept the name of a commune as Kim Lien on the basis of merging 5 communes: Kim Lien, Hung Tien, Xuan Hong, Nam Giang and Nam Cat together. The new Kim Lien commune has a total area of 61.08km2, population of 55,471 people.

Similarly, in Vinh city, according to the plan, the current 33 wards and communes of the city will be arranged into 6 units, reducing 27 units. In which, the new names of the 5 new wards are proposed to be named Vinh with the consecutive numbers from I to V.

In particular, the area of 7 wards of Cua Lo town (old) including: Nghi Hoa, Nghi Hai, Nghi Huong, Nghi Thu, Thu Thuy, Nghi Thuy, Nghi Tan was proposed to have Cua Lo ward named. Cua Lo ward has an area of 29.09km2, population of 64,760 people.

According to the Project to implement the arrangement of commune-level administrative units and build a model of organizing local government at 2 levels in Nghe An province, which has just been approved by the Provincial People's Committee, the names of new communes and localities are named based on many approaches according to the instructions in Decision No. 759/QD-TTg dated April 14, 2025 approving the Project to arrange and reorganize administrative units at all levels and building a model of organizing local government at 2 levels.

Districts: Ky Son (plan arrangement of 21 units into 12 units, down 9); Quy Chau (a plan to arrange 12 units into 4 units, reducing 8 units); Que Phong district (plan to arrange 13 units into 5 units, reducing 8 units).

The naming of new communes combines to keep the names of some old communes the same and to name new communes based on traditional, historical and cultural factors for the new communes including: Muong Ca, Huu Kiem, Nam Can, Chieu Luu, Na Loi, Muong tip, Na Ngoi, My Ly, Bac Ly, Keng Du, Huoi Tu, Muong Long (Ky Son district); Muong Noc, Tien Phong, Tri Le, Muong Quang, Thong Thu (Que Phong district); Chau Tien, Hanh Thiet, Chau Binh, Hung Chan (Quy Chau district).

Thanh District Plan to arrange 29 units into 9 units, reduce 20 units

The names of the new communes after the arrangement of Thanh Chuong are based on traditional, historical and cultural factors including: Cat Ngan, Tam Dong, Hanh Lam, Son Lam, Hoa Quan, Kim Bang, Bich Hao, Dai Dong, Xuan Lam.

Basically, the remaining districts and towns named the new communes after the names of district-level administrative units (before the arrangement) associated with the serial number.

In the coming time, 20 districts, cities and towns of Nghe An province will simultaneously collect voters' opinions and submit to the People's Councils at the commune and provincial levels for consideration and approval of the project to reorganize administrative units, to be completed before April 25, to submit to the Provincial People's Committee for completion and submission to the Provincial People's Council for consideration at the thematic session scheduled to be held on April 28.
