Dong Trieu is a land rich in revolutionary traditions, where the great cultural and historical values of the Vietnamese people are preserved. With a strategic location at the western gateway of Quang Ninh province, this is a cultural sedimentary land, where the national spirit converges, closely linked to the origin of the Tran Dynasty.
178 years ago, Dong Trieu marked the birth of the coal mining industry in Vietnam associated with the working class in the mining area, the birthplace of the fourth Tran Hung Dao resistance zone in the period before the August Revolution in 1945. Dong Trieu was where the first Party cell of the mining area was established (February 23, 1930).
Over the years, Dong Trieu has undergone strong changes. From a town, Dong Trieu has continuously developed, becoming an important economic, cultural and tourist center of Quang Ninh province.
By the end of 2024, Dong Trieu's per capita income will reach 8,803 USD/year, among the top in the country; there will be no more poor households according to national criteria; it will be a bright spot in administrative reform and digital transformation, with 100% of administrative procedures performed on an electronic platform; it will be the first new rural district in the North with Viet Dan commune, the first model new rural commune in the country, and it will lead Quang Ninh in model new rural areas.
The elevation of Dong Trieu to become a city directly under the province not only affirms the Central Government's belief in the position and development potential of the locality, but also motivates the Party Committee, government and people of Dong Trieu to continue to promote more strongly the glorious tradition, spirit of solidarity, innovation and development aspirations to consolidate its role as one of the important pillars, taking on the role of connecting the region. From there, it contributes to helping Quang Ninh province get closer to the goal of becoming a city directly under the Central Government by 2030; becoming a large urban area of regional and international stature by 2050, and one of the locomotives promoting national economic development.
With the existing foundation, along with the right orientation on transforming the development method to a sustainable "green economy" based on three pillars of nature, people, culture combined with high technology; at the same time, persistently implementing the development space organization model of "one center, two multi-dimensional routes, two breakthroughs, three dynamic regions" according to the approved Master Plan.

Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh acknowledged the outstanding contributions of the Party Committee, government and people of Dong Trieu in particular and Quang Ninh Province in general over the past years.
The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly hopes that the Party committees, authorities and people of Dong Trieu and Quang Ninh will continue to promote tradition and strive to turn Dong Trieu city into a model, modern, green, clean, beautiful and livable urban area.
"Dong Trieu City and Quang Ninh Province need to continue to make breakthroughs, taking the people's aspirations as a compass, taking innovation as a driving force to go further, and continue to be a bright spot as a model city not only in terms of economy but also in terms of culture and people" - the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly emphasized.
