Closely coordinate the search and repatriation of Vietnamese martyrs' remains to the country

General Phan Van Giang requested the two sides to continue to closely coordinate in the search and repatriation of the remains of Vietnamese martyrs who sacrificed in Laos.

On June 9, at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense, General Phan Van Giang - Member of the Politburo, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense received General Khamliang Outhakaysone - Member of the Politburo of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense of Laos on the occasion of accompanying Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone on an official visit to Vietnam and attending the 3rd ASEAN Future Forum.

According to the Ministry of National Defense's Electronic Information Portal, at the reception, General Phan Van Giang congratulated General Khamliang Outhakaysone on his new position and on his successful business trip to Vietnam; emphasizing that over the past time, Vietnam-Laos defense cooperation has continued to be comprehensively, deeply, and substantively implemented by both sides, continuing to be an important pillar in the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation, and strategic linkage between Vietnam and Laos.

Regarding the direction of cooperation in the coming time, General Phan Van Giang proposed that the two sides focus on implementing a number of key contents such as exchanging delegations at all levels, especially high-level; maintaining the effectiveness of existing cooperation mechanisms.

Strengthen cooperation in Party work and political work; coordinate to do well in preparing for the third Vietnam - Laos border defense friendship exchange, the annual meeting between the three Ministers of National Defense of Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia and the joint exercise between the Armies of the three countries on responding to non-traditional security challenges.

General Phan Van Giang also requested the two sides to direct functional agencies to propose practical activities to celebrate 2 important events in 2027: the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation (Year of Solidarity and Friendship Vietnam - Laos); requested the two sides to continue to closely coordinate in the search and repatriation of the remains of Vietnamese martyrs who sacrificed in Laos to their country, and hoped that the Lao Ministry of National Defense would pay attention to directing and assisting in promoting this coordination activity.

General Khamliang Outhakaysone expressed his pleasure to meet General Phan Van Giang; and happily accepted General Phan Van Giang's invitation to participate in the 3rd Vietnam International Defense Exhibition.

Emphasizing that the good traditional relationship between Vietnam and Laos is always concerned and nurtured by both sides, General Khamliang Outhakaysone affirmed that the leaders of the two Ministries of National Defense regularly have meetings and exchanges, contributing to further strengthening the defense cooperation relationship between the two countries.

The two sides have promoted quality and effective cooperation contents in the fields of: Exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-level; information exchange, joint border patrols, human resource training, coordination in searching for and repatriating the remains of Vietnamese martyrs to their country.

In the coming time, General Khamliang Outhakaysone requested the Ministries of National Defense of the two countries to continue to promote and implement the agreed cooperation contents, achieve higher quality and efficiency, thereby bringing the defense cooperation relationship between the two countries into depth and substance.
