At the question-and-answer session with Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung on the morning of November 12, National Assembly delegate Tran Thi Thanh Lam (National Assembly delegation of Ben Tre province) mentioned solutions to overcome the situation of bad information, toxic news, and false advertising on cyberspace.
Delegate Tran Thi Thanh Lam said that voters and people are very interested in the Minister's response on solutions because these advertising products have had and are having a great impact on people's lives.
"Voters want the Minister to clarify more so that voters know what is the key solution to completely resolve the above situation and also ask the Minister to let them know whether the Ministry of Information and Communications has fulfilled its responsibility of State management in this work in the past?" - the delegate asked.
Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung responded: "I dare not say whether I have fulfilled my responsibility yet, but I have done my best every day and every hour and there has been a lot of progress."
The Minister said that in the past, if false information or false advertising was sent to social networks, the social networks would not remove it; if 10 requests were sent, they would only take 1-2 (about 10-20%). Currently, social networks are very strict, with over 95% of requests to remove false information and advertising being carried out.
Besides, in the past, when requests were made, social networks would remove them, but now, when the State requires social network management, social networks must develop digital tools, self-scan, and self-remove false information.
Previously, social media platforms only removed illegal content; now, if a personal account repeatedly violates the law, it will be taken down; if a page repeatedly advertises falsely, it will be "cut off".
The Minister added that regarding the amendment of the advertising law, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism pays special attention to advertising in cyberspace.
Answering the question of whether amending the advertising law will thoroughly address the problem of false advertising, the Minister said that as society constantly changes, management must keep up with development.
“It is difficult to say what new technology or issues will be available in 5-10 years, so it is relatively difficult to predict. Therefore, the most important thing is to identify and recognize problems early, have solutions early, and adjust institutions early,” said Minister Nguyen Manh Hung.
