On the morning of October 18, the People's Committee of Hai Duong city, Hai Duong province held a ceremony to celebrate the 220th anniversary of Thanh Dong's founding, the 70th anniversary of Hai Duong city's liberation, and to receive the First Class Labor Medal awarded by the Party and State.
Attending the ceremony were Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan - Former member of the Politburo, former Chairwoman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Mr. Tran Duc Thang - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Hai Duong Provincial Party Committee and leaders of central agencies, leaders of Hai Duong province and city.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Le Dinh Long - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Secretary of Hai Duong City Party Committee said that after 220 years of establishing Thanh Dong, 70 years of liberating Hai Duong city, from an old Thanh Dong with an area of less than half a square kilometer, with a population of less than 1,000 people, Hai Duong city has now developed with an area of more than 110 square kilometers, a population of more than 300,000 people. The average income per capita in 1997 was 2.9 million VND/person/year, now reaching 80 million VND/person/year, 28 times higher.
Since being recognized as a provincial city, Hai Duong city has been continuously invested and developed through many new urban construction projects, meeting the development needs of over 30,000 apartments in the city. The city currently has 7 hospitals, a synchronous network of medical facilities in all communes and wards to take care of people's health.
Hai Duong city also always focuses on and does a good job of social security, cares about creating jobs for people; the rate of poor households in the city according to the national multidimensional poverty standard is only about 0.8%.
The city is interested in preserving and promoting the cultural and historical values of the ancient Dong Citadel - present-day Hai Duong city. The city is preserving and promoting the values of more than 300 tangible cultural heritages, nearly 1,000 intangible cultural heritages; 29 national-ranked relics, 39 provincial-ranked relics.
Regarding the work of Party building and the political system, from the first Party Cell established in 1938 with only 3 Party members, to date, the Hai Duong City Party Committee has over 19,000 Party members operating in 69 grassroots Party organizations.
Mr. Tran Duc Thang - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Hai Duong Provincial Party Committee proposed that Hai Duong city focus on building a strong and comprehensive Party organization and political system; make efforts to build and develop Hai Duong city into a green, smart, modern city with a developed urban economy, completing the criteria of a type I city.
At the same time, pay attention to ensuring landscape, urban beauty, ecological environment; develop services, culture, tourism, create many attractive destinations for people and tourists.
Focus on developing education and taking care of people's health. Implement social security policies well. Ensure maintaining national defense - security and order in the area, creating favorable conditions for expanding foreign relations and developing the economy - society.
Mr. Tran Duc Thang called for the cooperation of enterprises inside and outside the province to continue to pay attention to investment and trade connection for the development of Hai Duong city in particular and Hai Duong province in general.
On this occasion, Hai Duong city was honored to receive the First Class Labor Medal awarded by the Party and State.
