Prime Minister leaves for ASEAN Summit in Laos

On the morning of October 8, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh left for Laos to attend the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related Summits.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation attended the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related Summits in Laos from October 8 to 11, 2024 at the invitation of Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, ASEAN Chair 2024 Sonexay Siphandone.

According to VNA, the official delegation accompanying Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the working trip included: Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son; Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien; Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung; Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Do Duc Duy;

Deputy Minister of Public Security Tran Quoc To; Deputy Minister of National Defense Hoang Xuan Chien; Vice Chairman Office of the Government Nguyen Sy Hiep; Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Quoc Tri; Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Phan Tam;

Ambassador, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to ASEAN Ton Thi Ngoc Huong; leaders of a number of ministries, branches, agencies and localities also joined the working delegation.

With the theme "ASEAN: Promoting Connectivity and Resilience", the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related Summits were held in Vientiane, Laos with more than 20 activities.

The leaders will focus on discussing the process of building the ASEAN Community, including promoting the timely completion of the 2025 Blueprints and building the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and the implementation strategies in the coming period; reviewing and orienting relations between ASEAN and its partners, especially promoting cooperation in potential areas of current interest; and exchanging views on international and regional issues.

The ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ABIS) also took place; dialogue sessions between ASEAN leaders and representatives of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ABAC) and youth; and the 2nd Summit of the Asian Community on Net Zero Emissions.

It is expected that these conferences will adopt and acknowledge about 80 documents on many priorities and areas of cooperation both within ASEAN and between ASEAN and its partners, such as: building a Strategy to implement the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, implementing the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP), connecting supply chains, digital cooperation, plastic circulation, climate change response, biodiversity, preschool education, sustainable agriculture, people-to-people exchange, etc.

As in nearly 30 years of participating in ASEAN, Vietnam has been closely coordinating, supporting and assisting Laos in assuming the role of ASEAN Chair in 2024 and contributing to fostering the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos. Vietnam's participation and contribution to ASEAN in recent times have been affirmed as: proactive implementation, substantive participation and sincere contribution.

In particular, Vietnam effectively implemented the key priorities proposed by the Lao President; worked with other countries to complete the 2025 Master Plans and build Cooperation Strategies until 2045; and worked with other countries to strengthen ASEAN solidarity and unity in the current context of rapid and complex changes.
