Prime Minister leaves for Laos to co-chair the 48th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's working trip took place in the context of the Vietnam - Laos relationship continuing to be consolidated and tightened.

On the morning of December 2, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh left for the Lao People's Democratic Republic to attend the Meeting between the two Politburoes of Vietnam and Laos and co-chaired the 48th Session of the Vietnam - Laos Intergovernmental Committee from December 2 to 3 at the invitation of Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.

The working trip took place in the context of political relations and strategic trust between Vietnam and Laos continuing to be consolidated and tightened, affirming their core role and overall orientation in the relationship between the two countries.

Economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries has many development steps. Bilateral trade turnover in 2024 will reach 2.25 billion USD. In the first 10 months of 2025, bilateral turnover reached 2.56 billion USD. The two sides are striving to increase two-way trade turnover to 5 billion USD in the next 2-3 years.

As of April 2025, Vietnam has 267 investment projects in Laos with a total registered capital of 5.63 billion USD. Many Vietnamese investment projects have been operating effectively, contributing positively to socio-economic development, creating jobs and increasing income for thousands of workers, supplementing revenue for the Lao budget, especially in the fields of telecommunications, banking, rubber planting and processing, food production and processing, food and milk.

The fields of security - national defense, education - training, culture, tourism... continue to be strengthened. The two countries of Vietnam and Laos always closely coordinate and support each other in multilateral and regional forums. The two sides continue to strengthen cooperation and coordination with other ASEAN member countries in building the ASEAN Community and maintaining ASEAN solidarity and consensus on strategic issues in the region...

The working trip to attend the Meeting between the two Politburoes of Vietnam and Laos and co-chair the 48th Session of the Vietnam - Laos Intergovernmental Committee of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is of great significance in implementing the goals set by the Politburo at the Meeting between the two Politburoes, especially promoting practical cooperation, contributing to continuing to strengthen and enhance the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
