Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh meets with Chairman of the Lao National Assembly

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked Laos to promote the effective implementation of a number of key projects.

On October 8, in the capital Vientiane, Laos, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a meeting with Lao National Assembly Chairman Saysomphone Phomvihane on the occasion of attending the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the meeting, the two leaders affirmed that they always attach importance to and give the highest priority to consolidating and enhancing the great relationship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, considering this a priceless asset and a vital factor for the revolutionary cause of the two countries.

Thanking the Lao leaders and people for creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese people to do business, live stably and gradually consolidate their legal status in Laos, the Prime Minister proposed that the two countries' National Assemblies create a favorable legal framework to enhance comprehensive connectivity, especially in the five areas of institutions, energy, transportation, trade - investment and agriculture.

The Prime Minister also requested that Laos continue to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to do business in Laos and promote the effective implementation of a number of key projects.

Appreciating the two countries' National Assemblies for compiling and publishing the book "50 years of relations between the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the National Assembly of the Lao People's Democratic Republic - Comprehensive cooperation and development" on the occasion of the two countries' major holidays in 2025, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested continuing to strengthen propaganda and education for the young generation of the two countries about the special friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

National Assembly Chairman Saysomphone Phomvihane thanked Vietnam for its great support and assistance to Laos in recent times; highly appreciated the results of the talks between the two Prime Ministers; and expressed his wish to further strengthen the close relationship between the two countries’ National Assemblies, including joint supervision activities, contributing to the effective implementation of key projects and high-level agreements signed.

The Lao National Assembly Chairman agreed to promote local cooperation in agriculture, irrigation and processing of agricultural products for export; increase exchanges and sharing of professional experience; continue to closely coordinate and support each other at regional and international parliamentary forums such as IPU, AIPA, APF, etc.

In the context of complicated developments in the world and the region, the two sides affirmed to continue to foster the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, Laos and Vietnam, which have been diligently cultivated by previous generations of leaders, bringing economic cooperation to increasingly develop substantially and effectively, commensurate with the political relations between the two countries and in line with the development needs of each country in the new period.

On this occasion, the Chairman of the Lao National Assembly sent his regards to General Secretary and President To Lam and looked forward to welcoming National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to pay an official visit and attend the AIPA conference in Laos at the end of October 2024.
