In October 2024, on the occasion of attending the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related summits in Vientiane (Laos), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
The two Prime Ministers were satisfied with the good development of the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship and Strategic Partnership; agreed to increase contacts and exchanges at high and all levels; direct relevant agencies to effectively implement bilateral cooperation mechanisms, actively implement the Action Program to implement the Vietnam - Thailand Strategic Partnership for the period 2022-2027 in all fields.
The two sides also agreed to strive to soon bring bilateral trade turnover to the target of 25 billion USD in a balanced manner, through limiting trade barriers, facilitating further opening up commodity markets, removing obstacles and enhancing trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.
The two leaders highly appreciated the importance of implementing the "Three Connections" Strategy, especially connecting supply chains and strategic areas such as transportation, digital economy, green economy, energy transition, etc.; agreed to soon establish a Joint Working Group to develop content and specific plans to implement this strategy.
During this meeting, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra affirmed that he will soon arrange an official visit to Vietnam and co-chair the 4th Vietnam - Thailand General cabinet; emphasizing that Vietnam is one of Thailand's important partners in Southeast Asia and hoping to soon develop relations with Vietnam to new heights.
