The National Assembly Standing Committee has just decided on the arrangement of administrative units (ADUs) at district and commune levels in the 2023-2025 period of 12 provinces and cities.
There are 12 localities being considered for the arrangement of administrative units in this period, including An Giang, Dong Thap, Ha Nam, Hanoi, Ha Tinh, Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Tho, Son La, Quang Ngai, Quang Tri, Tra Vinh, and Vinh Phuc.
Presenting the Government's proposal, Minister of Home Affairs Pham Thi Thanh Tra said that after the arrangement, 1 district-level administrative unit (Ha Tinh) and 161 commune-level administrative units were reduced, of which the largest reduction was in Hanoi (53/109 wards), followed by Ho Chi Minh City (39/80 wards), and Phu Tho province (18/31 units).
In Phu Tho province, the Provincial People's Council at the end of August 2024 passed a resolution not to arrange and merge 3 districts including Thanh Thuy, Tam Nong and Phu Ninh.
At the commune level, the People's Council of Phu Tho province approved the arrangement of 30 administrative units (20 communes subject to arrangement and 10 adjacent communes) to establish 12 new commune-level administrative units.
After the arrangement, the total number of commune-level administrative units in Phu Tho province is 207 units, including 15 wards, 11 towns and 181 communes (reducing 18 commune-level administrative units).
The plan for merging and arranging commune-level administrative units in Phu Tho is specifically as follows:
Viet Tri City: Arrange Ben Got ward with Tho Son ward to form Tho Son ward; Van Co ward with Nong Trang ward to form Nong Trang ward.
Cam Khe District: Arrange Ngo Xa commune, Tuy Loc commune with Thuy Lieu commune to establish a new commune called Minh Thang. Arrange Xuong Thinh commune, Cap Dan commune with Son Tinh commune to establish Phong Thinh commune.
Merge Phu Khe commune, Ta Xa commune with Yen Tap commune to form Phu Khe commune; Chuong Xa commune, Phu Lac commune with Van Khuc commune to form Nhat Tien commune.
Doan Hung District: Arrange Chan Mong commune, Minh Phu commune with Vu Quang commune to establish new Chan Mong commune; Van Du commune with Chi Dam commune to form Chi Dam commune.
Merge Hung Long commune with Van Don commune to form Hung Long commune; Minh Tien commune, Tieu Son commune with Yen Kien commune to form Yen Kien commune.
Arrange Bang Doan commune with Minh Luong commune to establish Bang Doan commune; Soc Dang commune with Doan Hung town to form Doan Hung town.
After the above phase, the People's Committee of Phu Tho province plans to continue studying the arrangement of commune-level administrative units subject to arrangement (without specific factors) in accordance with the urban and rural planning of the province in the period 2026-2030.
Previously, on December 17, 2019, the National Assembly Standing Committee also issued Resolution No. 828/NQ-UBTVQH14 on the arrangement of commune-level administrative units in the 2019-2021 period of Phu Tho province.
During this period, Phu Tho province reorganized 80 commune-level administrative units under 10 district-level administrative units to establish 28 new commune-level administrative units.
After the arrangement, Phu Tho province has 13 district-level administrative units; 225 commune-level administrative units (a reduction of 52 units).
